Work Schedule Standard (Mon-Fri) Environmental Conditions Office Job Description About Thermo Fisher Scientific At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you’ll do work that truly matters. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that enables our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. Together, we push the boundaries of innovation to empower scientists and researchers worldwide through cutting-edge instruments, software, and digital technologies. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Software Test Engineer III to support software and system testing for EVOS Cell Imaging Systems. This role combines strong software testing expertise with microscopy, imaging, and instrument-domain knowledge. The successful candidate will independently plan and execute moderate to complex software and system testing activities, lead regression testing for assigned releases, support software verification, troubleshoot software-hardware integration issues, and ensure comprehensive test coverage across EVOS instrument workflows. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), software verification, test design, defect management, regression testing, and test-management tools such as JIRA, and Xray. The Software Test Engineer III will work closely with Software Developers, Systems Engineers, Product Owners, Application Scientists, and other Test Engineers to ensure EVOS software and instrument features meet defined functional, system, usability, performance, and workflow expectations. Key Responsibilities Independently plan, design, develop, execute, and document software and system test activities for EVOS Cell Imaging Systems and associated applications. Analyze product requirements, software requirements, system specifications, and user workflows to develop comprehensive test scenarios and test cases. Apply strong knowledge of SDLC and STLC throughout requirement analysis, test planning, test design, test execution, defect management, regression testing, and test closure activities. Participate in requirement, design, and technical reviews and provide feedback on testability, requirement clarity, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and potential product risks. Develop and maintain functional, integration, system, regression, exploratory, usability, workflow, and software-hardware interface test cases. Lead software regression testing activities for assigned EVOS releases, including regression scope identification, test prioritization, execution coordination, defect follow-up, and completion reporting. Support execution of software verification activities against approved product and software requirements. Ensure appropriate requirement-to-test-case coverage and maintain test traceability using approved test-management tools. Use JIRA, Xray, or equivalent tools for test-case management, requirement traceability, test execution, defect tracking, and reporting. Identify, document, reproduce, prioritize, and track software defects through closure. Provide clear defect descriptions including reproduction steps, expected behavior, actual behavior, supporting logs, screenshots, images, and relevant test evidence. Perform systematic troubleshooting to isolate issues across: Software EVOS hardware Camera and imaging components Stage movement Objectives Illumination Autofocus Image acquisition Software-hardware communication Image-processing workflows Perform EVOS hardware-software integration testing to ensure correct interaction between software applications and instrument components. Test instrument-control functionality including: Camera acquisition Objective selection Stage movement Autofocus Exposure control Illumination control Fluorescence-channel selection Multi-position imaging Multi-well plate imaging Test EVOS imaging workflows including: Brightfield imaging Fluorescence imaging Phase-contrast imaging Time-lapse imaging Z-stack acquisition Image tiling and stitching Image review Image processing Image analysis Image storage and export Evaluate software workflows from an end-user perspective and identify usability, workflow, reliability, and performance issues. Perform exploratory testing to identify edge cases and failure scenarios beyond predefined test cases. Conduct compatibility and configuration testing across supported EVOS hardware, software, operating-system, and application configurations as applicable. Work closely with Software Developers and Systems Engineers during defect investigation and provide sufficient technical evidence to support root-cause analysis. Participate in defect triage meetings and provide technical input regarding defect reproducibility, severity, impact, and regression risk. Monitor assigned testing activities and communicate test progress, blockers, risks, and quality concerns to project stakeholders. Prepare test execution summaries, regression status reports, defect metrics, and testing-related project updates. Contribute to estimation and planning of software-testing activities for new features and product releases. Identify opportunities to improve regression efficiency, test coverage, defect detection, and overall software-testing processes. Contribute to development and maintenance of reusable test suites and regression test repositories. Support junior Test Engineers with test-case design, defect reporting, troubleshooting, test-tool usage, and EVOS product knowledge. Collaborate effectively with global and cross-functional software, systems, hardware, product, and application teams. Minimum Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, or a related discipline. 5+ years of relevant software testing experience, preferably involving scientific instrumentation, medical/laboratory instruments, microscopy systems, imaging applications, or software-hardware integrated products. Strong understanding and practical application of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Strong understanding and practical application of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC). Strong experience in: Requirement analysis Test planning Test-case design Test execution Defect management Regression testing System testing Integration testing Exploratory testing Demonstrated experience independently handling moderate to complex software-testing assignments. Experience leading or coordinating software regression testing for product releases. Experience executing software tests against defined requirements and supporting software verification activities. Hands-on experience with JIRA for defect tracking and software-development workflows. Experience with Xray for JIRA, or equivalent test-management tools. Experience creating and maintaining test cases, test sets, test executions, defects, requirements, and traceability within test-management systems. Strong defect-analysis and troubleshooting skills. Experience testing software integrated with hardware or instrumentation. Ability to troubleshoot problems across software, hardware, instrument communication, and user workflows. Good understanding of microscopy and digital imaging concepts. Familiarity with EVOS or comparable imaging systems and concepts such as: Brightfield imaging Fluorescence imaging Phase contrast Autofocus Objectives Camera acquisition Image resolution Image quality Ability to interpret software behavior in the context of imaging-instrument workflows. Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills. Excellent defect documentation, technical writing, and communication skills.
