The Staff Package Engineer, is accountable for leading packaging improvement projects across the Diagnostics business, focusing on performance, cost, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This position partners closely with the Senior Project Manager, Sustainability Package Engineering, to ensure packaging enhancements align with both general business objectives and sustainability goals. The role requires cross-functional collaboration to identify, develop, and implement packaging solutions that optimize the product lifecycle, improve quality, and support corporate strategies. This is a dynamic opportunity for an innovative professional eager to drive packaging excellence in a global, forward-thinking organization Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify, evaluate, and prioritize packaging improvement opportunities across the product portfolio, balancing cost, quality, and operational factors. Lead cross-functional project teams to design, test, and deploy innovative packaging solutions, coordinating closely with the Sustainability Package Engineer to ensure alignment on eco-friendly materials and processes. Lead structured brainstorming and concept development sessions with cross-functional stakeholders to translate user needs, business requirements, and technical constraints into practical packaging solutions. Define, document, and support testing of user requirements, human factors considerations, and usability inputs to ensure packaging solutions meet customer, workflow, and regulatory expectations. Develop and standardize packaging processes and documentation, ensuring compliance with global regulatory requirements and industry standards. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis to enhance packaging performance and reduce waste. Partner with Research & Development, Supply Chain, Quality, Marketing, and external suppliers to implement robust and cost-effective packaging systems. Support business responses to Tender Requests by providing technical packaging specifications, validations, and process documentation. Monitor packaging performance metrics and report progress on key improvement initiatives to leadership and stakeholders. Stay current with advancements in packaging materials, automation, and regulatory trends, integrating best practices into ongoing and future projects. Act as a subject matter expert and mentor engineers and cross-functional team members. Champion a collaborative culture by working closely with the Sustainability Package Engineering to maximize synergies between general packaging improvements and sustainability initiatives. QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Package Engineering, Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Experience with biologics packaging is strongly preferred, reflecting the importance of specialized solutions for sensitive pharmaceutical products. Experience with human factors, user requirements definition and testing, and facilitation of structured brainstorming sessions is strongly preferred. 10+ years of experience in packaging engineering, with a proven track record of leading packaging development projects. Strong knowledge of packaging materials, processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements, including ASTM/ISO standards. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, cross-functional teams, and budgets in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across functions and organizational levels. Proficiency with CAD, packaging design, validation protocols, and statistical analysis tools. Ability to innovate, solve complex problems, and drive results through effective project leadership. Familiarity with sustainability principles and willingness to partner on eco-friendly initiatives. Willingness to travel up to 20%. The base pay range for this position is: $137,910 - $189,629 Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
