Bristol-Myers Squibb (Cruiserath Campus) is seeking to recruit a Senior Specialist to join the Environmental Monitoring & Utilities team within QC Microbiology. This role brings together training coordination and delivery responsibilities with the technical testing, compliance, and support responsibilities of a QC Senior Specialist. The successful candidate will report to the QC Microbiology Manager and will dedicate approximately 40% of their time to training coordination and delivery activities for the team, with the remaining 60% of their time spent performing Senior Specialist duties, including Environmental Monitoring, Utility Sampling, Biological Indicator testing, Short Turn Around Time (STAT) testing for Protein Concentration, Media Fill reads and laboratory compliance activities. Key Responsibilities Training Coordination & Delivery (approx. 40% of role) • Perform Door 2 Floor (D2F) induction training for new employees in line with the D2F schedule. • Deliver training for new and existing employees across all required on-the-job (OJT) training within the team. • Take ownership for training progression on shift, ensuring OJTs are planned, delivered, and completed by appropriately qualified personnel, while maximising opportunities for peer-to-peer training and knowledge transfer. • Support the Training Manager with coordination of the D2F programme and OJT training. • Actively work to ensure training metrics are met and that assigned training is completed on time. • Monitor training progress in real time, anticipate obstacles, and implement timely solutions. • Support amendments to on-the-job training content to enhance delivery and quality. • Assign or amend curricula as required to support training needs. • Support completion of training waivers where required. • Apply a continuous improvement mindset to enhance training delivered to the team. • Collaborate with functional area personnel and Quality system owners to support implementation of process improvements. • Approve SOPs, training documents, and related materials where required. Senior Specialist – Environmental Monitoring & Utilities (approx. 60% of role) • Perform QC Environmental Monitoring in cleanrooms and Utility Sampling (Water and Gas Systems), with associated testing and timely, accurate completion of laboratory documentation. • Provide support to other departments to ensure qualification and production schedules are adhered to. • Work on own initiative with minimum supervision, and as part of a team. • Assist in authoring and reviewing documentation, including trend reports, SOPs, risk assessments and training materials as required. • Keep abreast of current corporate and industry requirements and compliance trends relevant to laboratory operations and aseptic manufacturing. • Review batch paperwork and data, and reconcile analyses performed in the laboratory; ensure out-of-specification results are investigated per site procedures. • Assist with excursions and out-of-specification investigations. • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and safety in the laboratory, with adherence to and improvement upon lean lab and 6S practices. • Perform QC testing or other QC support activities as needed. • Participate in regulatory agency inspections as required. • Lead projects and continuous improvement efforts within the team when required e.g. Technical Transfer and Greenbelt • Anticipate and troubleshoot problems, escalating and resolving issues proactively. • Represent the interests of the group on cross-functional teams. • Serve as equipment subject matter expert (SME) for Environmental Monitoring and Utilities laboratory test equipment. • Provide coaching and mentoring to analysts and trainees to support their technical and professional development. Note: This candidate will be required to work on a shift pattern. Candidate Profile The successful candidate must demonstrate experience working effectively with teams and the ability to deliver training to a high standard, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills are required to build rapport with trainees and collaborate across departments, along with the ability to plan and manage time effectively across competing priorities. Experience with training coordination is desirable. As a senior member of the team, the successful candidate will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, exercise sound judgement in ambiguous or evolving situations, and act as a point of escalation and technical reference for analysts. Strong ability to communicate effectively with peers, department management, and cross-functional partners is essential. The role also carries a coaching and mentoring dimension, supporting the technical and professional development of analysts and trainees alongside formal training delivery. Qualifications and Experience • Minimum of a third-level qualification (Degree) in Microbiology, Science, or a related discipline. • Minimum of 4 years' experience in a pharmaceutical / healthcare laboratory or related technical function. • Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques including Environmental Monitoring, Water Sampling, Biological Indicators, HPLC, UV Spectrophotometry, and Media Fills. • Strong background in Microbiology and aseptic manufacturing. • Demonstrated experience in training delivery and/or coordination. • Working knowledge of onsite systems (e.g. LIMS, LES, MODA) highly desirable. • Ability to accurately and completely understand, follow, interpret, and apply Global Regulatory and cGMP requirements. • Good understanding of data integrity principles and requirements within a QC laboratory environment. • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring capabilities. • Ability and willingness to work a shift pattern.
