This position reports to: Electrical Design Team Lead, Europe __ Your role and responsibilities We are now looking for a new R&D Engineer, Electrical to join our team at ABB Oy, IEC LV Motors in Vaasa, Finland. In this role, you will be responsible for electrical development activities related to insulation systems for low voltage motors, including material evaluation, testing, and product development activities. We offer you a challenging role in the global R&D organization, where you have good opportunities to grow as a specialist by working for one of the leading low voltage motor manufacturers. You will take proactive ownership of assigned tasks and communicate the results. This includes active collaboration with project managers, project team members, global R&D teams, and other internal partners. The work model for the role is: Hybrid, with 2 days a week at the office and other days based on your own preference and scheduling. Our office is located in Vaasa. This role is part of the Motion Business Area, IEC LV Motors R&D organization in Europe. You will mainly be responsible for: Working in global product development projects related to electrical insulation systems, from concept development through validation and implementation Planning, coordinating, and supporting insulation material testing and evaluation activities, including hands-on laboratory and prototype testing Maintaining and continuously improving insulation solutions throughout the product lifecycle Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, test reports, specifications, and design guidelines according to project requirements Collaborating actively with global R&D teams, operations, and other functions in the organization Taking ownership of assigned tasks, ensuring timely execution, and communicating results to project teams Our team dynamics Our teams support each other, collaborate, and never stop learning. Qualifications for the role B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field Self-driven way of working with good teamwork and communication skills Analytical and logical mindset with a structured approach to problem solving and technical investigations Previous experience in electrical insulation systems, insulation materials, material testing, electrical machines, or related technical or product development activities Fluent written and spoken communication skills in both English and Finnish. Other language skills are considered an advantage. Hands-on experience in laboratory testing, material characterization, failure analysis, or qualification testing is considered an advantage Familiarity with international standards related to electrical insulation systems, electrical machine design, and rotating electrical machine technology, as well as experience with electrical design tools, is considered an advantage Experience with SAP, Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, or laboratory testing and material qualification processes is considered an advantage Note that this role involves frequently working with resins. A requirement for this position is the ability to work with these kinds of materials that may exacerbate conditions such as asthma, or atopic dermatitis. An approved health examination and a negative drug test result are prerequisites for employment.
