Job description

ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD. At AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world’s most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future. Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career. THE ROLE: AMD is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the team building modern Windows desktop software that helps users discover, configure, and get the most from their AMD hardware and software features. As a key contributor, you will design and develop reliable, high-performance experiences across the application stack. You will work at the intersection of native C++ systems programming, Qt/QML user interfaces, graphics and display technologies, and service-oriented application architecture. Your work will help deliver polished, secure, and maintainable software to millions of AMD customers. THE PERSON: The ideal candidate is an innovative and pragmatic software engineer with a strong problem-solving mindset and a passion for building quality products. You are comfortable working across technical boundaries, turning ambiguous requirements into durable designs, and delivering production-ready software in a fast-paced environment. You bring sound engineering judgment, strong ownership, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, product managers, and partner teams across regions. You are motivated by difficult technical problems and are diligent about correctness, performance, reliability, accessibility, and the end-user experience. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Design, implement, and maintain sophisticated software features using modern C++ and Qt. Develop and enhance native Windows application components, including runtime services, client adapters, and Qt/QML user interfaces. Build robust communication and data flows between application components using gRPC and Protocol Buffers. Integrate software features with AMD graphics, display, performance, and system technologies. Translate product requirements into clear technical designs, implementation plans, and maintainable code. Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving concurrency, IPC, service lifecycles, performance, and system integration. Validate new features through unit testing, integration testing, code review, debugging, and release qualification. Improve software quality through thoughtful API design, automated tests, observability, security practices, and disciplined engineering processes. Collaborate closely with feature teams, driver and platform engineers, QA, user experience, and project management to deliver customer-ready solutions. Contribute to the evolution of a scalable, resilient, and maintainable architecture for future AMD software products. Participate in technical planning, design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring of other engineers. PREFERRED EXPERIENCES: Expert knowledge of C++ and hands-on experience developing production software for Windows. Strong experience with Qt and QML, including Qt application architecture, signals and slots, model/view patterns, and UI performance. Experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, IPC, or other distributed/service-oriented communication technologies. Solid understanding of object-oriented design, software architecture, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles. Strong understanding of multithreaded programming, synchronization, asynchronous processing, and resource ownership. Experience with Windows system programming, desktop application development, or hardware-accelerated software. Familiarity with graphics, display, GPU, driver, performance, or system-level technologies is highly valuable. Experience with automated testing, debugging tools, profiling, CI/CD, and modern software development practices. Proficiency in using AI-assisted development tools to improve coding, debugging, testing, documentation, and technical problem-solving, with sound judgment to validate generated results and protect confidential information. Ability to read and work effectively in large, multi-component codebases. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate clearly in technical discussions, meetings, written documentation, and day-to-day collaboration across a global team. Experience with secure software development, accessibility, localization, or reliability engineering is a plus. ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent professional experience may also be considered. LOCATION: Shanghai #LI-VC1 Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance .
