Job description
At Jabil (NYSE: JBL), we are proud to be a trusted partner for the world's top brands, offering comprehensive engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing solutions. With 60 years of experience across industries and a vast network of over 100 sites worldwide, Jabil combines global reach with local expertise to deliver both scalable and customized solutions. Our commitment extends beyond business success as we strive to build sustainable processes that minimize environmental impact and foster vibrant and diverse communities around the globe. We are looking for an experienced Senior Android BSP Engineer to join a long-term international engineering project focused on the development of next-generation embedded Android/Linux platforms for advanced professional products used worldwide. As part of the firmware engineering team, you’ll work on sophisticated control systems, digital media, and unified communications solutions deployed in conference rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, home offices, and enterprise environments. These are real, commercially deployed products where platform performance, multimedia quality, reliability, and hardware/software integration truly matter. Work Deep Inside the Android Platform This is not typical Android application development. You’ll work close to the hardware and deep within the Android platform, contributing to BSP development, platform integration, optimization, debugging, and system-level problem solving. You’ll investigate problems that rarely have simple answers—working across multiple layers of the system to understand what is happening, why it is happening, and how to solve it properly. Real Engineering Ownership You’ll work directly with real hardware and real product environments, collaborating with experienced hardware, firmware, Android, Linux, and application engineers across multiple countries. Your contribution will go beyond implementing predefined tasks. We value engineers who can analyze complex technical problems, propose solutions, make sound engineering decisions, and take ownership from investigation through implementation and validation. You’ll also have the opportunity to exchange knowledge with highly experienced engineers and deepen your expertise across Android internals, BSP development, embedded Linux, multimedia, and hardware/software integration. Why This Project? If you enjoy bringing up hardware, debugging across the Android stack, optimizing complex embedded systems, and solving the difficult problems that sit between hardware and software, this is an opportunity to work on technically challenging products while continuing to grow as a senior Android platform engineer. Required ExpertiseMust have 8+ years of proven experience developing, customizing, and debugging embedded software/firmware for Linux and/or Android-based products. Strong programming skills in C/C++ within embedded or system-level development environments. Hands-on experience with Embedded Linux development on ARM-based platforms, including configuration, build, deployment, hardware interfaces, and platform bring-up. Experience with Linux Kernel, U-Boot, Device Tree, and low-level platform customization. Practical experience with device driver development, optimization, troubleshooting, bug fixing, and adding new functionality for areas such as display, power management, Wi-Fi, GPIO, or other hardware interfaces. Hands-on experience with Android HAL and the ability to debug issues across the Android Framework and Linux Kernel layers. Good understanding of AOSP architecture and Android platform development workflows. Strong understanding of recent Android versions, features, APIs, and changes, preferably Android 14 or later. Experience working with source control and Android development tools such as Git, Gerrit, GitHub, ADB, and Fastboot. Ability to debug embedded systems where traditional step debugging may be limited or unavailable. Ability to independently read and understand electrical schematics and collaborate effectively with hardware engineering teams. Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mindset, and ability to work independently in a complex technical environment. Good written and verbal communication skills in an international engineering setting. Nice to have Experience with Android framework services, Android Native applications using JNI/NDK, or Android system applications written in Java or Kotlin. Experience with hardware-accelerated graphics processing, especially OpenGL ES. Experience with Camera, Display, Media, power management, or connectivity-related subsystems in embedded Android/Linux products. Experience with scripting or automation using Bash or Python. A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field would be an advantage. Expected Deliverables and Areas of ContributionParticipate in the full software development lifecycle for new and existing embedded Android/Linux-based products — from design and development to testing, debugging, release support, and maintenance. Design, develop, and maintain embedded software and platform-level components using C/C++ in close cooperation with software and hardware engineering teams. Work with Embedded Linux and Android BSP areas, including platform configuration, hardware interfaces, device drivers, and support for new device features. Contribute to the development of next-generation control system, digital media, and unified communications products used in real enterprise environments. Investigate and resolve system-level issues across Android/Linux software layers, working on troubleshooting, debugging, performance improvements, and bug fixing. Support integration between software applications, hardware components, connected devices, and control systems to ensure stable product behavior. Support field escalations for new and legacy products by analyzing issues and contributing to long-term product reliability. Prepare and maintain clear technical documentation, including test procedures, design notes, troubleshooting information, and implementation details.
