This position reports to: R&D Team Lead Modular Metering __ In this role, you will drive Prototyping, testing and certification of New Product Development (NPI), Cost out and product quality baseline programs. You will also execute projects working with R&D team. The work model for the role is hybrid #LI-Hybrid in Bloomfield, CT. This role supports the Electrification, Smart Buildings Division Your role and responsibilities: Coordinate with design teams to develop test programs to evaluate new products, Cost out and legacy product baselines Schedule and facilitate sample builds with manufacturing, in-house prototyping team, and outside vendors to build samples for testing. Assemble samples as needed. Act as liaison to 3rd party certifiers with the responsibility of co-developing test plans to demonstrate standards compliance (Underwriters Laboratory and other global certifiers) Develop and execute test plans to evaluate new product designs, Cost out or product baseline programs to meet internal ABB requirements, reliability, and statistically significant sample sets. Coordinate and schedule testing with internal and external test labs Create test requests based on interpretation of certification standards, such as UL67. Document and analyze data from these tests. Tear down products & take measurements or root cause product failures. Work closely with the design team to provide feedback and feedback on product designs Work with 3rd party certifiers, such as Underwriter’s Laboratory, to evaluate and document products according to standards Ensure all test methods are compliant to the regulations of the applicable standards (e.g. Underwriters Laboratories (UL), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and International Standards Organization (ISO)). Identify cost out opportunities in the product line participating in work outs, brainstorming etc. Lead and execute projects in collaboration with cross functional teams. Qualifications for the role: Required Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering. Minimum 3 years’ experience in testing or related field. Demonstrated ability to systematically develop, document, and analyze data sets Disciplined approach to problem solving and documentation Ability to work independently and complete multiple tasks with minimal direction. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US. Preferred Knowledge of compliance standards (e.g. UL, ANSI, CSA, IEC). Knowledge of NPI or Cost out Project execution. Knowledge of low voltage power distribution products such as panel boards, switches or similar. Experience working with UL or IEC certification, testing & execution; root cause analysis Strong technical aptitude, Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure. While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $68,600 and $109,760 annually.
