The Senior Director, Strategy, Execution & Planning will help translate ViiV R&D priorities into integrated plans, clear operating frameworks and practical delivery mechanisms. The role will lead high-priority workstreams, manage dependencies, track progress against outcomes and enable faster, better-aligned decision-making across R&D. Working in close partnership with the Head of Strategy, Execution & Planning, Head of R&D, the R&D LT and cross-functional partners, this leader will bring strategic judgement, scientific and business acumen, structured problem solving and strong execution discipline to improve organizational effectiveness and productivity. The role will lead key strategic and operational deliverables, including Board Paper contributions, Strategic Portfolio Review presentations, GSK and ViiV Board materials, IR preparation, technology and AI planning, external partnerships and business development priorities. The successful candidate will be able to operate through ambiguity, simplify complex priorities and create alignment across senior stakeholders while maintaining clear ownership, pace and accountability. Strategy, Execution & Planning enables ViiV R&D to translate strategy into focused priorities, disciplined planning and measurable delivery. The function brings structure, pace and operational excellence to ensure delivery across a complex R&D environment. Reporting to the Head of Strategy, Execution & Planning, the Senior Director will lead priority workstreams that convert strategic intent into executable plans, effective governance and sustained business impact. Research Triangle Park | Where People + Ideas Converge (rtp.org) This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following… Support the Head of Strategy, Execution & Planning, the R&D Head and the R&D LT in translating R&D strategy into clear priorities, outcomes and execution plans. Lead priority workstreams that improve planning discipline, portfolio strategy, governance, operating frameworks and decision quality across ViiV R&D. Coordinate cross-functional delivery across R&D LT effectiveness, scientific collaboration support, technology and AI planning, external partnerships and key governance forums. Contribute and coordinate the ViiV R&D strategy and business plan, including initiatives linked to the ViiV LT, GSK Strategic Portfolio Review and Acceleration Office. Define objectives, milestones, KPIs and scorecards to track progress, surface delivery gaps and support timely decision-making. Translate emerging ideas into practical workplans with clear value drivers, owners, dependencies, decision points and implementation support. Identify, escalate and help resolve risks, issues and dependencies that could affect delivery, pace or strategic alignment. Bring strategic thinking and industry knowledge, to increase the effectiveness of the R&D strategy and delivery. Create clear communications to portray the ViiV R&D strategy to internal and external stakeholders. We are looking for a strategic, execution-focused leader who can bring clarity to complexity, mobilise stakeholders and translate priorities into measurable outcomes without adding unnecessary process. Basic Qualification We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goals Master’s degree in Life Sciences & 12+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical or biotech environments, with strong understanding of drug discovery, development, strategy and operational planning. Track record leading complex, cross-functional initiatives, simplifying ways of working and building delivery discipline through measurable impact. Experience building high-performing teams and mobilising matrixed stakeholders around shared priorities. Proven delivery of multi-year strategic initiatives in fast-moving, ambiguous and cross-functional environments. Experience with external partnerships and alternative business models to support R&D effectiveness. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and align teams behind R&D objectives. Ability to take complex concepts and distil to crisp, clear actions and communications Strong strategic judgement, risk assessment and bias for practical, timely action. High emotional intelligence, organisational awareness and ability to work effectively across a global matrix. Strong operating discipline, with ability to manage multiple high-priority workstreams and calibrate detail for senior decision-making. Agility and resilience, with the ability to deliver high-quality results within demanding deadlines. Exceptional learning agility and strong work ethic in complex, ambiguous environments.
