Next-Generation Wireless Software MEET THE TEAM The Cisco Wireless team develops the full software stack for our industry-leading wireless solutions. From low-level firmware and kernel drivers to complex cloud-managed applications, we build the connectivity that powers the world. YOUR IMPACT Ready to undertake an internship lasting 6 months, starting around February 2027? You will work alongside senior engineers engaged in designing and creating the next Wi-Fi solutions and products. You will operate on wireless software, working within both kernel and user space on current and future Access Point (AP) platforms. The tasks you may be involved in include: Contribute to the development of emerging Wi-Fi standards (e.g., Wi-Fi 8 and 9). Develop and optimize open-source wireless drivers and kernel-space components. Improve and harden hostap implementations for carrier-grade stability. Collect and analyze performance data to drive architectural improvements in future software releases. Leverage AI-based development tools to accelerate design, prototyping and testing. You will be mentored by industry experts in networking, gaining deep exposure to the challenges of scaling wireless technology globally. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Strong academic record. Proven proficiency in C/C++. Solid foundational knowledge of computer networking. Eagerness to tackle complex technical challenges in a collaborative team environment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Hands-on experience with Linux kernel development or driver architecture. Familiarity with 802.11 standards and Wi-Fi functionality. Experience with network protocol analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark). Experience working with version control systems (e.g., Git, Gerrit). Why Cisco?
