This approximately 13 week remote (or onsite at either New Albany, Ohio; Holly Springs, North Carolina; South San Francisco, California; or Thousand Oaks, California) Graduate internship program offers important project and operational experiences with the world’s leading biotechnology company. This role will also support the preparation of business case proposals to Executive Engineering Leadership. During this program, you will work closely with a team of Amgen’s Engineers that support one of the following areas: Engineering Technical Authority Global Capital Project Management Project Controls and Strategy Engineering Operations Services Environment, Health and Safety This role is designed for graduate students who want to apply advanced technical, analytical, digital, or research capabilities to real-world Engineering challenges. Projects may use data, automation, AI-enabled tools, and continuous-improvement methods to improve project delivery, productivity, quality, safety, sustainability, and decision-making. Key responsibilities may include: Lead or independently drive a defined project workstream, from problem framing and analysis through recommendations and implementation planning. Partner with project design teams and subject-matter experts to support engineering project development, plans, standards, equipment selection, and technical documentation. Analyze technical feasibility, lifecycle impacts, costs, schedules, risks, and benefits to inform capital-project decisions and business cases. Assess Engineering, construction, and operational processes to identify opportunities for standardization, efficiency, innovation, and risk reduction. Develop, evaluate, or improve digital, automation, data, or AI-enabled tools and dashboards that enhance Engineering workflows and decision-making. Apply structured problem-solving and data-analysis methods to translate complex information into clear insights and practical recommendations. Support EHS initiatives that strengthen compliance, environmental stewardship, workforce well-being, and operational risk management. Prepare and present project updates, findings, and recommendations to Engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders. The Engineering graduate intern we seek is a collaborative team-player who exemplifies the following qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 18 years or older Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Currently enrolled in an MBA program for an MBA internship OR a Master’s program for a Master’s internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR Ph.D. for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university and completion of the first year of MBA OR Master’s OR Pharm D OR Ph.D. program before the internship starts Preferred Qualifications: Degree concentration(s) in one of the following areas:Engineering, project delivery, or construction: Chemical, Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil, Construction, Environmental, or Systems Engineering; Construction Management; Architecture; or a related discipline Digital, data, and AI: Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Information Systems, Analytics, Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field. Environment, health, and safety: Environmental or Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Public Health, Toxicology, Ergonomics, Safety Science, or a related field Experience applying engineering, analytics, research, or continuous-improvement methods to solve complex problems Interest in applying AI, automation, data, and digital tools to improve Engineering processes, capital-project delivery, quality, safety, or operational performance Experience with one or more of the following is preferred: Python, SQL, Power BI/Tableau, data visualization, statistical analysis, process modeling, BIM/Revit, automation platforms, or generative AI tools Ability to develop sound analyses, synthesize information from multiple sources, and make actionable, evidence-based recommendations Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts clearly to varied audiences Demonstrated initiative, project-management ability, and comfort working both independently and in a matrixed team environment What You Can Expect of Us As we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for your professional and personal growth and well-being.
