The Principal Automation Architect is responsible for defining and governing the architecture, standards, reference designs, and reusable application-library strategy for Siemens PCS 7 automation solutions. The role provides technical leadership across product and technology-development programs, helping Cytiva build secure, scalable, maintainable, and reusable automation capabilities that can be integrated into multiple products and customer solutions. This position reports to the Director, Automation Architecture and is part of Automation and Digital Department, located in the United Kingdom. The specific workplace arrangement will be defined in the approved requisition and local posting. What you will do Serve as the lead solution architect for Siemens PCS 7, owning platform architecture across programs, products, and systems from concept through delivery. Define and maintain platform standards, reference architectures, implementation patterns, and a reusable Siemens PCS 7 application library aligned with enterprise architecture and product-development needs. Design scalable, secure, resilient automation solutions across IT and OT environments, including system integration, industrial communications, APIs, edge and data integration. Provide technical leadership for complex development programs, review key design decisions, resolve cross-system architecture issues, and guide engineering teams on the most challenging technical work. Partner with product management, engineering, cybersecurity, quality, and architecture stakeholders to align technical direction with business priorities, regulatory expectations, lifecycle needs, and product roadmaps. Who you are Bachelor’s degree in automation, controls, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience. Extensive professional experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or OT architecture, including architecture leadership for complex automation systems. Demonstrated expert-level proficiency with Siemens PCS 7, including architecture, engineering standards, integration, lifecycle considerations, and reusable control or application-library design. Demonstrated experience translating product, process, cybersecurity, and system requirements into scalable and maintainable automation architectures across lab and industrial environments. Working knowledge of industrial communication and integration technologies, with experience providing technical direction across multidisciplinary engineering teams and multiple development programs. Travel, motor vehicle record and physical/environment requirements Ability to travel up to 20%, including occasional international and overnight travel to Cytiva sites, partners, and customer-facing locations. Ability to work in office, laboratory, engineering, and manufacturing environments as required by project activities. It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in Automation solutions in life sciences, bioprocessing, pharmaceutical, or another regulated industry, including awareness of validation and product-lifecycle expectations. Additional automation ecosystems such as Rockwell Automation or DeltaV, and relevant Siemens, cybersecurity, or enterprise-architecture certifications. Join our winning team today.
