Position Overview: Mastercam seeks a Software Engineer I who contributes to the development of Mastercam's ecommerce capability within the WordPress environment, working under the technical direction of a senior engineer. The Software Engineer I implements features, integrations, and administrative interfaces from established designs, and is expected to deliver well-scoped work reliably with regular review and feedback. The position requires a working foundation in web development and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly. Scope of responsibility grows over time as the engineer demonstrates increasing independence and develops familiarity with Mastercam's business processes Key Responsibilities: Ecommerce Feature Development Develops features on the ecommerce solution under the technical direction of a senior engineer. Builds administrative and internal tooling interfaces that support business and operational workflows. Implements and maintains integrations between WordPress and internal systems and third-party services, working from designs established by a senior engineer. Develops test fixtures and supporting code, and assists quality control in building automated coverage. Development & Maintenance Designs, develops, and tests software to resolve defects and implement user stories. Maintains and updates the existing codebase. Documents completed work so that it can be maintained by others. Collaboration & Communication Participates in code reviews as both author and reviewer, and acts on feedback received. Works with the team in writing, correctly sizing, and accurately detailing and breaking down stories and defects. Coordinates with other developers to determine how best to implement requested changes. Communicates project status regularly, inclusive of all pertinent details, with all necessary stakeholders. Actively participates in planning meetings. Continuously develops expertise in Mastercam's critical business processes. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering, or equivalent experience. 1 - 3 years' experience developing web applications, with working knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, or equivalent demonstrable project work. Experience developing custom functionality on WordPress, including theme or plugin development rather than configuration alone. Familiarity with source control and peer review practices. Exposure to relational databases and SQL. Exposure to agile software development. Exposure to ecommerce applications or payment processing is preferred. Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools or automation to improve productivity and operational effectiveness, or a demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, evaluate, and apply such technologies at scale. Key Competencies Above average communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide accurate and timely information in a succinct and easy to understand manner. Raises questions and blockers in writing rather than waiting for a synchronous conversation. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and to act constructively on code review feedback. Willingness to work in technologies outside of WordPress as project needs require. Well-organized, attention to detail and able to multi-task. Problem solving and analysis skills This role will focus on integrating an acquired company (to be acquired) to Mastercam per Sandvik's and Mastercam's program and processes - from a compliance and financial controls perspective. As the integration work will go down over time, the role is expected to take broader BA wide responsibilities e.g. under the common Sandvik compliance program (and also locally for the Hub and our other local business).
