Here in Manchester, we've been making P&G products at our Trafford Park site for the past 90 years and after some exciting new investment are looking to recruit a motivated utilities technician to join our Pampers manufacturing team. The Utilities Technician is a key member of the Site Utilities Team, responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of site utility systems such as cooling towers, HVAC, glycol chillers exhaust fans etc . The role focuses on equipment reliability through planned maintenance, defect management, contractor supervision, and continuous improvement to drive better reliability and efficiency of our equipment. This is a day-based role (7am - 3pm) with required participation in an on-call rota (1 week in 4) and support for weekend maintenance activities (as needed). Key Responsibilities Safety & Quality Champion safety and quality in all activities, maintaining the highest standards across the utilities area. Ensure full compliance with site safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and company policies. Promote a proactive safety culture through risk identification, mitigation, and continuous improvement. Reliability & Maintenance Excellence Execute maintenance to maximise equipment reliability and performance. Investigate equipment failures and process issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions. Create, maintain, and improve technical standards to support reliable operations. Daily Management Systems (RTT) Play an active role in daily direction setting and ensure daily inspection processes are executed to a high standard. Use performance data and operational insights to drive continuous improvement and department performance. Coaching & Capability Building Coach, mentor, and develop apprentices, building both technical expertise and RTT DMS capability. Share best practices and support the development of technical competence within the wider team. Contractor Management Manage third-party contractors safely and effectively. Prepare work permits, conduct risk assessments, and supervise contractor activities to ensure safe and high-quality execution. Ensure all contracted work meets site standards and regulatory requirements. What we Offer You: Competitive Salary: You will join on our starting pay whilst qualifying into your role. Once you have qualified, you will move to our level two pay structure. Starting Pay - £33,232.68 Level 2.1 Pay - £35,520.68 Level 2.2 Pay - £38,400.44 Flex4Me: This is an annual £1200 allowance for you to spend on physical, mental, financial and work-life balance wellbeing. Generous Pension: The Company will contribute double the amount you contribute towards your pension savings, up to a maximum company contribution of 14% of your pensionable pay. Annual Leave: You will start with 25 days annual leave entitlement (plus bank holidays), increasing with length of service up to 30 days. 1-4-1 Shares: For every share that you purchase, the Company will purchase a share on your behalf. You can contribute up to 2.5% of your salary into the 1-4-1 Share Plan, up to a maximum of £150 a month. Job Qualifications Have a proven practical background of applying process, operational, mechanical skills to help solve production and equipment related losses. Have a high level of personal accountability and ownership for results. Show leadership potential and are not afraid to accept difficult challenges. Are willing to suggest and implement changes that will improve systems, work processes and equipment reliability. Are strong team players who possess excellent verbal and written communicated skills that allow cross-shift and function interaction. Are able to make maximum contribution with minimum supervision. Want a challenging career and not just a job. Job Qualifications We are looking for individuals who have: Time-served mechanical or process apprenticeship, or equivalent technical experience. Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills. Experience working with: Air Handling Units (AHUs) Cooling Towers Water Chillers Glycol Systems Pumps Motors Fans and associated mechanical equipment Proven troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability. Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications. The ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards. It would be great if you also have: IOSH qualification. Permit-to-Work training and experience, including: General Work Permits Working at Height Confined Space Entry Construction Activities Hot Work Qualification to work at height and operate MEWPs. Lifting and Slinging certification. Legionella awareness training. Experience managing subcontractors and external service providers. Experience leading continuous improvement or reliability improvement initiatives.
