Job Description: Job Description Internship – 2027 Undergraduate Sales Intern - Safety & Industrial Business Group (SIBG) The role of an Undergraduate Sales Intern is intended to start in Summer 2027. An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year. This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. About the Safety & Industrial Business Group: The Safety and Industrial Business Group (SIBG) at 3M offers a diverse range of products designed to enhance safety, productivity, and efficiency across various industries. Key product categories include personal safety (respiratory, hearing, eye, and fall protection), abrasives (coated, bonded, and non-woven), adhesives and tapes (industrial adhesives and various tapes), electrical markets (electrical tapes, wire connectors, and cable management), automotive aftermarket (collision repair and automotive tapes and adhesives), and industrial and safety markets (safety solutions and industrial maintenance products). The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a 3M SIBG Sales Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your sales skills while engaging with customers and supporting commercial growth. You will gain hands-on experience in customer-facing sales roles within the Safety and Industrial Business Group, learning how 3M partners with customers and distributors to understand needs, recommend solutions, and create value. Through onboarding, coaching, and collaboration with experienced sales professionals, interns build foundational skills in customer relationship management, product knowledge, communication, sales planning, and commercial execution. This experience is designed to help interns explore different sales career paths while contributing to projects and activities that support 3M, its customers, and channel partners. Daily tasks can include, but are not limited to: · Build and strengthen business relationships to understand customer needs, identify challenges, and uncover growth opportunities. · Develop a foundational understanding of 3M SIBG product lines, customer segments, competitive products, pricing considerations, and sales policies. · Recommend 3M Safety and Industrial solutions that align with customer applications, business goals, and market opportunities. · Support sales growth through account planning, pipeline development, customer follow-up, distributor engagement, and sales campaign execution. · Collaborate with experienced sales professionals and cross-functional teams while participating in training, coaching, and exposure to senior leadership. · Contribute to meaningful projects that address real business challenges and create value for 3M, customers, and channel partners. Company Vehicle This position may require driving a company vehicle, which will require pre-employment and ongoing review of motor vehicle history for candidates who are offered and hired for this position Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: · Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or higher, from an accredited institution. · Current, valid Driver’s License (required for Field Sales positions, as you will be issued a company vehicle for Field Sales positions.) Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: · Demonstrated interest in B2B sales, account management, business development, customer engagement, or industrial/safety markets. · Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, ask thoughtful questions, and present information clearly. · Analytical mindset with the ability to review sales data, customer information, market trends, and business performance to identify opportunities. · Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a strong interest in learning how to support customer needs and contribute to sales growth. · Ability to work collaboratively with sales, marketing, product, operations, supply chain, and other cross-functional teams. · Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments. · Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint; exposure to CRM systems, sales reporting tools, or data analytics platforms is a plus. Work location: · This Role has an on-site working model, with the employees working at least four (4) days a week in the office at 3M Center, located in Maplewood, MN or Austin, TX · Field Sales positions can be located across the country Travel: May include up to 75% domestic travel 3M provides eligible interns with a housing and transportation stipend in accordance with current policy.
