R&D Scientist – Bead Characterisation & Application Science
Thermo Fisher · Oslo, Norway
Job description
Work Schedule Standard (Mon-Fri) Environmental Conditions Laboratory Setting Job Description Thermo Fisher Scientific offers the scale, reach, and mission-driven work to make a meaningful impact. The Role: We are seeking an R&D Scientist to develop and apply analytical methods for the characterization of materials and surfaces, and to understand how their physical and chemical properties influence performance in customer applications. The role will bridge analytical science, materials and surface chemistry, and application performance, with a particular focus on functionalized beads used in immunoassays, proteomics, biomolecule capture, and related applications. Key Responsibilities: • Develop, optimize, and apply analytical methods to characterize materials, particles, and surfaces. • Design experiments that connect physical and chemical properties with functional and application performance. • Translate application challenges into analytical and materials-science questions. • Integrate data from multiple analytical techniques and functional assays to identify the material attributes that drive performance. • Apply statistical and data-driven approaches to understand complex relationships and support predictive models. • Provide analytical expertise to new product development, product improvement, and technical investigations. • Identify, evaluate, and introduce new analytical technologies and capabilities. • Communicate scientific findings and translate data into clear recommendations for multidisciplinary teams. Qualifications and Experience: • MSc or PhD in analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, materials science, colloid/interface science, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related discipline. • Strong experience in analytical method development and characterization of materials and/or surfaces. • Strong experimental design, scientific problem-solving, and data-analysis skills. • Ability to connect analytical measurements with material, product, or functional performance. • Ability to work independently and effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Experience in one or more of the following would be an advantage: • Surface chemistry, colloid/interface science, or functionalized particles. • Protein–surface or biomolecule–surface interactions. • Immunoassays, proteomics, affinity-based assays, or biomolecule capture. • Statistical, multivariate, computational, or machine-learning analysis of experimental data. • Evaluation and implementation of new analytical technologies. Apply now! Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and the position may be filled once a suitable candidate has been identified.
