Context The NXP Automotive Business Unit is responsible for developing integrated circuits for connected vehicles, covering a wide range of applications including in-vehicle networking, automotive lighting, car radio and audio systems, automotive power solutions, and radar technologies. The 77 GHz Radar Development Team based in Toulouse is responsible for the development of the radar transceiver IC used in current applications such as parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, and collision avoidance systems, as well as future applications including autonomous vehicles. We are looking for a final-year engineering student for a 6-month internship to work closely with our millimeter-wave integrated circuit design team. In a radar receiver, the mixer is used to downconvert the received high-frequency RF signal (77 GHz) into a lower-frequency signal (a few MHz). Passive mixers offer significant advantages in terms of noise performance, linearity, and power consumption. However, their conversion loss remains a limitation. As part of a collaboration with the IMS Laboratory in Bordeaux, NXP is investigating a new type of passive mixer, known as a charge-pump mixer, for future radar generations. These mixers are capable of providing voltage gain while maintaining the benefits of passive architectures. Their integration could help overcome the traditional trade-off between noise performance and linearity in radar receiver chains. The intern will be responsible for studying the integration of charge-pump circuits into an automotive radar receiver in order to evaluate their potential benefits and performance impact. Your Responsibilities Learn and understand the operating principles of charge-pump N-path mixers. Understand mixer sizing and optimization to meet automotive radar requirements. Design and/or utilize fundamental building blocks used in millimeter-wave radar receivers (e.g., matching networks, LNAs, baseband amplifiers). Build and simulate a radar receiver incorporating a charge-pump mixer using Cadence design tools. Develop the circuit layout and perform post-layout simulations. Your Profile Familiarity with RF/mmWave CAD design tools such as Cadence Virtuoso and ADS Momentum, as well as a strong understanding of RF fundamentals. Strong interest in millimeter-wave circuit design. Interest in the electronic circuit design and development process. Strong teamwork skills and good written and spoken English communication abilities. What We Offer You will join a highly skilled and collaborative team working on cutting-edge technologies and challenging technical projects driven by customer requirements. NXP is a global leader in RF semiconductor solutions, offering an environment where innovation and technical excellence are highly valued. One of NXP's missions is to enable secure connections and create a smarter world. This internship will be carried out in collaboration with the IMS Laboratory and may lead to a CIFRE PhD opportunity and/or a permanent position at NXP.
