Job Description SummaryA Principal Software Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for shaping the architecture, strategy, and technical direction of complex software The Principal Software Engineer provides senior technical leadership for the architecture, strategy, and delivery of complex software systems supporting GE HealthCare products and platforms. This role shapes technical direction for scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions and applies deep engineering expertise to address complex technical challenges and improve software quality and performance. The role influences technical outcomes and contributes to the delivery of high-quality software for critical healthcare applications. Job DescriptionResponsibilitiesLead the architecture, design, and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, and secure software systems for GE HealthCare products and platforms. Drive technical vision and strategy by evaluating new technologies and methodologies to continuously improve software development processes and offerings. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. Partner with product management, UX/UI designers, quality assurance, and other engineering teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. Resolve complex software issues through debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to address critical issues and optimize system performance. Establish and enforce best practices for software development, code reviews, testing, and deployment to support high standards of software quality. Contribute across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. Serve as a software engineering subject matter expert and technical liaison for internal and external stakeholders. Required QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. 10+ years of progressive experience in software development, including significant experience in a lead or principal engineering role. Proven expertise in designing and building large-scale, distributed, and highly available software systems. Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages, such as Java, C#, Python, or Go, and relevant frameworks. Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes. Deep understanding of software architecture patterns, data structures, algorithms, and design principles. Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, influence technical direction, and mentor other engineers effectively. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
