The Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) organization partners across operations to protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, manage occupational and environmental risks, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. This position is based in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and requires onsite presence five days per week. Local travel of up to 30% annually may be required to support nearby facilities, projects, audits, training activities, and operational initiatives. The Principal EHS Specialist serves as a subject matter expert in Environmental, Health & Safety professional supporting manufacturing operations through the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental programs. This role acts as a key resource for occupational health and industrial hygiene initiatives, including exposure assessments, air monitoring, and compliance activities, while partnering closely with manufacturing, engineering, operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to identify risks, implement controls, and strengthen a proactive culture of safety and compliance. Primary Responsibilities Lead the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs that support manufacturing operations, regulatory compliance, and employee health and safety. Serve as the site's industrial hygiene subject matter expert by developing and executing exposure assessment strategies, including air sampling, personal monitoring, area sampling, and surface/wipe sampling; interpret results and recommend appropriate corrective actions and controls. Serves at the site’s Radiation Safety Officer, Laser Safety Officer and as a source for other technical and regulatory compliance obligations. Partner with manufacturing, operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to identify workplace hazards, evaluate risks, and implement effective engineering, administrative, and behavioral controls. Conduct incident investigations, risk assessments, industrial hygiene assessments, compliance audits, and root cause analyses; develop and drive corrective and preventive actions to closure. Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and environmental regulations while maintaining required documentation, records, and reporting. Analyze EHS performance metrics, exposure monitoring data, and compliance trends to identify and implement creative opportunities for continuous improvement and strengthen the site's safety culture and operational performance. Required Qualifications High School Diploma (or equivalent) AND 10+ years experience OR Associate’s Degree AND 8+ years experience OR Bachelor’s Degree AND 6+ years experience Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related field. Experience supporting Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs in manufacturing, industrial, medical device, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other highly regulated environments. Experience implementing and managing EHS compliance programs, including industrial hygiene initiatives and exposure assessment activities such as air sampling, personal monitoring, and surface/wipe sampling. Experience conducting incident investigations, risk assessments, audits, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities. Experience with ISO 14001, 50001 and/or 45001 Working knowledge of OSHA, industrial hygiene, environmental, and occupational health regulations, including chemical hazard and exposure management. Experience partnering with manufacturing, operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to drive compliance, continuous improvement, and a strong safety culture. Professional certification such as CIH, CSP, ASP, or other relevant EHS credential preferred. For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
