Job Title Data Engineering Expert What does a successful Data Engineering expert do? A successful Individual Contributor this is a hands-on technical role who architects and delivers reusable enterprise platforms from concept through live operations. You will solve complex engineering problems, create pragmatic reference designs, guide teams through implementation, and raise standards across architecture, coding, testing, security, DevOps, and reliability. You will lead through influence while remaining close to the code and customer outcomes. What you’ll do: End-to-end architecture and hands-on engineering for multi-tier web platforms, microservices, APIs, data services, and cloud-native applications. Translate ambiguous business and product requirements into clear solution designs, technical roadmaps, delivery increments, and operational acceptance criteria. Build critical prototypes, reusable frameworks, reference implementations, and complex components using modern backend, frontend, data, and cloud technologies. Conduct design and code reviews, resolve difficult production issues, improve performance, and guide teams on maintainable engineering decisions. Define and champion standards for clean architecture, secure coding, API design, automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and live-site readiness. Partner with product, engineering, security, infrastructure, operations, data, and customer teams to manage dependencies and deliver enterprise-wide outcomes. Mentor engineers and technical leads through pairing, design discussions, documentation, technical forums, and constructive feedback. Identify automation, platform, and AI-assisted engineering opportunities that improve developer productivity, quality, governance, and operational efficiency. Influence architecture direction across multiple teams without relying on formal people-management authority. What you will need to have: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong hands-on experience architecting, developing, testing, deploying, and operating enterprise software platforms. Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot or Python and FastAPI, REST APIs, SQL, and modern web or service architecture patterns. Experience with microservices, distributed systems, Kubernetes, Docker, public cloud services, and infrastructure automation. Experience designing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, observability, resilience, scalability, security, and production support practices. Ability to create high-level and low-level designs, evaluate trade-offs, and communicate technical decisions to engineering and non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, cross-functional influence, and ownership of complex outcomes from discovery through production. Strong analytical, debugging, documentation, collaboration, and communication skills. What would be great to have: Experience with React or TypeScript, Apache Spark, Kafka, data engineering, analytics platforms, or zero-code and self-service platform design. Experience with AWS services, Kubernetes ecosystems, Terraform or AWS CDK, and multi-cloud environments. Experience applying GenAI or LLM-assisted practices to software delivery, governance, documentation, testing, or operational support. Experience building reusable enterprise platforms adopted across multiple applications or customer teams.
