Management Consultant - Mining
Accenture
Job description
We Are Accenture's Canada Natural Resources (CNR) practice works where strategy meets the working face. We help the world's largest mining companies close the gap between investment and outcomes, across planning, operations, maintenance, processing, and the commercial decisions that tie it all together. Our work spans the full Mine-to-Market chain: from resource to revenue, from site-level performance to boardroom strategy. We are a team of practitioners. Most of us have spent years inside mining companies before joining Accenture. That operational credibility is how we earn trust with clients, and how we deliver work that actually holds up once we leave the site. About Accenture's Mining Practice Accenture's global mining practice works with leading mining companies to apply innovation, transformational strategies, and digital enablement to improve operations, drive growth, and reduce risk. With decades of experience, we bring an unmatched combination of industry knowledge, technology expertise, and strategic vision to deliver comprehensive, integrated solutions at speed and scale. Our skilled consulting professionals engage with mining executives to reach new levels of performance and sustainability across the full mining value chain — from pit to port, and from sensor to boardroom. Canada's Natural Resources practice is Accenture's mining centre of gravity in North America. Our differentiating position is Mine-to-Market transformation: integrating across the value chain to close the gap between digital investment and balance sheet outcomes. We work at the operational core of our clients' businesses, not from the outside looking in. Learn more: www.accenture.com/naturalresources You Are You understand the industry, how value is created, and how to connect the dots. You are equally comfortable exploring the big questions with senior leaders and working alongside teams to make change real. You listen, connect ideas across the organization, and bring together the right people to move from ambition to action. You know that the best strategies are shaped with, and delivered by, the people closest to the work Now you want to use that experience at greater scale. Not because you want to escape the industry. Because you want to shape it. You move comfortably between a technical conversation with an engineer and a business case in front of a sponsor. You can identify where value is leaking before anyone has told you to look. And you're comfortable to function in an imperfect and fast paced environment The Work Assess client functions and performance across the mining value chain -from exploration, mine design and planning, extraction, maintenance, processing, and logistics - and identify where performance, cost, capital efficiency, and enterprise value can be improved across both corporate and operating assets Structure opportunities in business terms, including cost per tonne, throughput, asset utilisation, capital recovery, and broader enterprise impact across metrics such as EBITDA, AISC, cash flow, and return on invested capital Develop and pressure-test strategic recommendations for senior client stakeholders - including business cases, investment rationale, portfolio prioritization, and growth or cost strategy - translating operational insight into boardroom-ready positions Design solutions that span process, people, and technology, with sound judgment on when each lever will create the greatest value Support technology-enabled transformation work - including platform reinvention, intelligent enterprise programs, and digital initiatives - by grounding solutions in operational reality and ensuring they deliver measurable business outcomes Lead and deliver implementation workstreams alongside client teams, moving beyond recommendation into execution and sustained value delivery Build credibility with operational and technical counterparts at site level while creating executive-ready communications and engaging confidently with project sponsors and senior corporate stakeholders Contribute to CNR practice development through proposals, thought leadership, and internal knowledge building Support the development of junior team members through active coaching, collaboration, and apprenticeship What You Bring A working knowledge of the mining value chain and how decisions at each stage affect the bottom line The ability to diagnose operational problems with structure, and not just describe symptoms Comfort at every interface: site technical teams, project offices, corporate leadership Quantitative grounding to build and stress-test a business case Pragmatism: you know what can be realistically implemented, not just what looks good on a PowerPoint slide Willingness to be on-site with clients, as and when the project requires What Makes This Role Different This is not a performance strategy or process improvement rotation. We are building a practice with deep industry roots and a distinctive point of view on how mining companies generate value across the full chain from resource to revenue. The work is integrative by design — spanning strategy, operations, technology, and commercial outcomes. You will work with clients on problems that matter. Mine design decisions ahead of major capital investment. Operational performance programs at scale. Maintenance transformations that change the cost structure of a site. Digital programs that need operational context to deliver business results — not just data. If you want to go deep in an industry you already know, and build a body of work that compounds over time, this is that role What We Are Looking For 4 to 8 years of direct industry experience in one or more of the following areas: Mine design, planning, and scheduling across open pit or underground environments, including exploration through feasibility stages of ore body development Mine or plant operations and maintenance, including work management and process safety supervision In-house business improvement or continuous improvement programs, including CI teams, BI functions, and internally led transformation initiatives Sustaining or growth projects, capital programs, or portfolio-related work, particularly focused on investment optimisation, value assurance, or performance improvement rather than engineering delivery Digital or data programs embedded within mining operations Domain experience in any of the following is valuable: Open pit operations & underground mining, hard or soft rock Mills, concentration plants and other processing facilities Operational data and digital transformation Continuous improvement and Lean programs Business intelligence and performance management Strategy development and execution English is required for this position as this role will regularly interact with stakeholders across Canada, US and other countries across our Global footprint where English is the common language. Due to the significant high volume of interactions with these English-speaking stakeholders, which is inherent to this position, it is not possible to reorganize the company's activities to avoid this requirement. Preferred Qualifications: Consulting experience, in conjunction with industry knowledge and experience Exposure to cross-functional or enterprise-level transformation programs is a plus, particularly where operational excellence was linked to broader business performance and enterprise outcomes Strong preference for degrees in one of the following areas: Engineering: Mining, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Metallurgical, Chemical, or Civil Metallurgy or Process Engineering Geology or other science-based disciplines Business, Commerce, or Strategy Additional qualifications that could strengthen a profile: Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt, Black Belt, or equivalent) Project Management Professional (PMP) Continuous improvement or operational excellence credentials Compensation at Accenture varies
