Alliance Management is responsible for maximizing the value and effectiveness of strategic collaborations by building strong partner relationships, aligning organizations around shared objectives and enabling successful execution of partnership agreements. Alliance Managers serve as a key connection point between internal cross-functional teams and external partners, helping translate complex agreements and strategic priorities into clear governance, decisions and actions. The role combines strategic thinking, relationship management, governance and problem-solving. Alliance Managers work across functions such as R&D, Commercial, Legal and Finance to facilitate effective governance, monitor progress against collaboration plans and contractual commitments, identify and resolve issues, and ensure that risks and opportunities are surfaced to the appropriate decision-makers. Successful Alliance Managers develop a deep understanding of both organization’s priorities and ways of working, build trusted relationships across multiple levels of the partnership, and navigate differing perspectives to create alignment. Ultimately, the role is about creating the conditions for collaborations to succeed by strengthening relationships, enabling effective decision-making and keeping partners focused on shared goals and meaningful outcomes for patients. This role is based in Foster City CA and does not provide relocation. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Lead effective partnerships and governance Help oversee governance for strategic collaborations, including committee operations, issue identification, decision support and solution development. Work directly with partner companies to translate partnership agreements into clear activities, timelines, responsibilities and ways of working. Monitor implementation of and adherence to agreed research, development and commercialization plans, escalating or addressing gaps to support execution. Conduct regular alliance health checks and use insights to strengthen collaboration effectiveness. Anticipate and address urgent or complex issues while reducing the need for crisis-driven management. Drive alignment, compliance and execution Partner with Legal, Finance, R&D, Commercial and other functions to support contract milestones, financial transactions, progress reporting and information needs. Coordinate the collection, development and quality review of forecasts, as appropriate, to support financial planning. Identify, prioritize and resolve key project and partnership issues in a matrixed environment. Lead or participate in contract renegotiations and contribute alliance-management perspectives to new partner negotiations, particularly governance structures and operating processes. Represent the alliance internally Prepare for and facilitate reviews with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, communicating key decisions, risks, milestones and opportunities. Develop a strong understanding of each partner’s organization, leadership, strategy, financial context and priorities, becoming a trusted internal resource. Contribute to Alliance Management team forums by sharing progress, lessons learned and best practices. Basic Qualifications: 6+ Years with BS/BA OR 4+ Years with MS/MA Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, in one or more of the following areas:Integration Management Alliance Management Program or Project Management Office (PMO) Strategy and Operations Business Operations Transformation Management Management Consulting Enterprise Governance Experience in commercial, business development, project leadership, project management or a closely related role. Experience working across organizations or industries and aligning stakeholders with different priorities. Strong leadership, self-direction and the ability to learn quickly in a complex environment. Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills. Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with sound judgement and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, operate through ambiguity and coordinate effectively in a matrixed organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Advanced degree in life sciences, business, medicine or law. Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences industry experience Knowledge of or experience in oncology; experience in virology, inflammation or liver disease is also valued. Experience working across global markets, including Europe, Japan or other regions. Fluency or proficiency in an additional language. They provide the support needed to remove barriers and connect their team to the broader ecosystem. The salary range for this position is: $146,540.00 - $189,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
