As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be part of our Device Embedded Systems team responsible for designing, developing and verifying embedded software applications used in implantable cardiac medical devices. Your entrepreneurial mindset and technical skills will be used, creating solutions that meet business needs and optimizing customer experience directly impacting the organization and affecting the lives of millions. The individual will operate in all phases and contribute to all activities of the software development process. The ideal candidate is a software engineer with full software development lifecycle knowledge, understanding of embedded design, development and verification testing, and experience creating project deliverables in the medical device industry. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects. A Day in the Life: In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Principal Software Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Lead verification activities for embedded medical device software, including test planning, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation of verification results. Define and own software verification strategy for embedded medical device systems. Provide technical leadership for verification activities across multiple projects and product releases, ensuring comprehensive coverage of software requirements, risks, and system-level behaviors. Use a variety of software troubleshooting tools including OTS and custom-built. Ensure compliance with applicable quality system requirements, software lifecycle processes, and risk management activities throughout verification execution. Lead technical planning, prioritize verification activities, and coordinate cross-functional execution to meet project objectives Qualifications MUST HAVE - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, PLEASE BE SURE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline and a minimum of 7 years of work experience, OR an advanced degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline with 5 years of work experience. Nice to Have Experience in embedded software development and verification, including C/C++ programming, automated test framework design, and creation of verification strategies, protocols, reports, and traceability documentation. Strong expertise in embedded systems architecture, with hands-on knowledge of ARM microcontrollers, embedded hardware, and real-time operating systems (RTOS). Proficient in test and debug activities, utilizing laboratory instrumentation such as debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers. Experience with CI/CD tools and automated verification pipelines. Technical expertise in wireless and connected medical technologies, including Bluetooth communications and implantable medical device systems. Demonstrated success working in highly regulated industries, with an understanding of quality, compliance, and product lifecycle requirements for medical device development.
