Aligns and organizes, steers and controls all products and solutions development activities in the assigned part of the R&D organization with the objective of maximizing the performance of the business organization. Position Summary We are seeking a highly technical and people-focused Senior Manager for R&D Engineering team. You will lead a new product development engineering team with initial focus on test engineering. This leader will build and develop a high-performing team, establish effective verification and validation strategies, and ensure products meet technical, performance, quality, and customer requirements. Although verification and validation will be the team’s initial responsibility, the role is not limited to V&V. The Senior Manager and the team will also support product development activities, including requirements development, prototyping, design reviews, technical risk reduction, root-cause analysis, and early-stage testing. The ideal candidate has significant experience managing engineering teams and strong technical knowledge of electronics and electrical systems. The candidate should also understand software concepts, mechanical mechanisms, and the interaction of these disciplines within complex electromechanical products. This individual must demonstrate strong critical thinking, sound technical judgment, effective talent development, and a commitment to maintaining a positive, motivated, and accountable team culture. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership and Development • Lead, coach, and develop a team of verification and validation engineers supporting new product development. • Establish clear priorities, responsibilities, performance expectations, and professional development plans. • Build a positive and collaborative culture that promotes accountability, technical rigor, continuous learning, and constructive problem-solving. • Assess team capabilities and address skill or capacity gaps through employee development, recruiting, and contract resources. • Work with Project Management and other leaders to plan and balance resources across multiple development programs. Product Development and Technical Leadership • Contribute to the full product development cycle. Activities involving requirements definition, system architecture, prototyping, design reviews, risk assessments, and technical investigations. • Provide hands on technical leadership in electronics, system integration, and electromechanical product development. • Develop, execute and refine V&V strategies that result in world class products. • Develop, write and refine test plans, methods, protocols, and reports such that they are technically sound, repeatable, traceable, and properly documented. • Execute and mentor the team for activities such as system testing and characterization of complex electromechanical systems that include electronics, embedded software, sensors, actuators, data acquisition, controls, and mechanical mechanisms. • Analyze test data and system failures using strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, then collaborate with multidisciplinary development teams to improve product performance, reliability, safety, and testability. Verification, Validation, and Continuous Improvement • Provide leadership for the selection, development, and use of test equipment, instrumentation, data-acquisition systems, automated test systems, and test fixtures. • Improve test coverage, efficiency, data quality, requirements traceability, defect detection, and failure analysis. • Ensure verification and validation risks, failures, and corrective actions are clearly communicated and resolved. • Advance lean product development and testing practices that reduce rework, delays, unnecessary complexity, and low-value activities. • Promote early learning through rapid prototyping, focused experiments, automated testing, and risk-based verification planning. * Is responsible for all products and solutions development activities in the assigned part of the R&D organization. * Manages organization unit assigned, and leads, motivates and develops dedicated employees. * Implements guidelines and defines functional specific policies, processes or methods to fulfill the superior business strategy. * Plans and allocates resources and budgets to relevant projects or activities. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. • (5 yrs minimum) Experience leading multidisciplinary teams supporting electrical, software, mechanical, systems, and test activities. • Significant engineering experience in new product development, verification, validation, and/or test engineering. • Extensive experience with verification and validation processes, test methods, instrumentation, data-acquisition equipment, fixtures, and automated test systems. • (Desired) Strong technical knowledge of electronics, embedded electronics, sensors, controls, communications, motors, actuators, or other electromechanical systems. • Experience with requirements management, design controls, configuration management, risk management, and product lifecycle processes. • Knowledge of root-cause analysis and risk-management methods, including 5 Whys, fault-tree analysis, design of experiments, or failure mode and effects analysis. • (Desired) Experience working in a regulated, safety-critical, industrial, or high-reliability product environment. • Demonstrated success building a positive, motivated, collaborative, and accountable engineering culture. • Strong critical-thinking, decision-making, and structured problem-solving skills. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical issues to technical and nontechnical audiences. The base pay range for this position is: $169,220 - $232,683 Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan.
