Job Description Senior Process Development Engineer Wotton under Edge up to £48,000 depending on experience We are recruiting Process Development Engineers to support the introduction of new products into manufacture. You do not need to meet every criterion to apply. We welcome candidates with transferable engineering experience and the potential to develop in the role. The role sits within a New Product Introduction environment and focuses on turning product concepts and prototypes into safe, controlled, robust, capable and efficient assembly and test processes. You will collaborate with product design teams and manufacturing stakeholders to define build strategies, reduce manufacturing risk, validate processes and transfer them into production. Responsibilities Work closely with product design and wider engineering teams to develop assembly and test strategies for new products. Translate product requirements into practical, manufacturable processes using design for assembly and manufacture principles. Design, develop, introduce and improve processes for product assembly and testing. Plan and complete prototype builds, trials and pilot validation batches to demonstrate process readiness. Specify and project-manage the sourcing, manufacture, installation and introduction of equipment, tooling and production controls. Identify and reduce safety, quality, delivery and cost risks through robust process design, risk assessment and appropriate validation. Analyse process and test data to understand capability, variation and opportunities for improvement. Produce clear technical documentation, reports and handover information to support transfer into manufacturing. Collaborate with operators, suppliers and stakeholders across engineering, quality and manufacturing. Support continuous improvement in quality, yield, first-time pass rate, efficiency and cost Lead complex or higher-risk process development projects from definition through to production handover. Set technical direction, make proportionate engineering decisions and communicate recommendations to stakeholders. Coordinate work across disciplines, suppliers and manufacturing sites, managing priorities, dependencies, cost and delivery. Provide technical review, coaching and guidance to less experienced engineers and share good practice across the team. Drive improvements to engineering methods, standards and process-development approaches. Key requirements An HNC, degree or equivalent learning in an engineering discipline, or relevant practical experience that demonstrates comparable capability. A sound engineering foundation and the ability to apply structured problem-solving to manufacturing or technical challenges. Some experience of developing, introducing, supporting or improving an assembly, test or manufacturing process. The ability to organise your work, maintain accurate documentation and communicate technical information clearly. A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from, and contribute to, a multidisciplinary team. Awareness of the importance of safety, quality, risk and process control in a manufacturing environment. Desirable requirements Precision, optical, mechatronic, electrical or electromechanical assembly and test. Design for assembly or manufacture, Process FMEA, control plans, measurement system analysis, statistical process control or capability studies. Production control, automation, industrial equipment or data-acquisition technologies. Tooling, fixture or equipment design and introduction. Six Sigma, structured root-cause analysis or continuous-improvement methods. Working with suppliers and transferring processes between development and manufacturing sites. Person specification You will be curious, practical and methodical, with the initiative to develop effective solutions and the judgement to seek support when needed. You will be comfortable balancing technical detail with delivery priorities, building constructive working relationships and adapting your communication to different audiences.
