About the RoleAs a Principal Precision Data Converter Design Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority in the architecture and design of high-resolution analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converter ICs. You will lead the development of precision data conversion solutions from concept through silicon validation, driving system-level performance across linearity, noise, and dynamic range. Your work will span multiple business units and directly influence ADI’s leadership in precision measurement and data acquisition. Key ResponsibilitiesDefine and lead system-level architecture of precision data converter ICs, encompassing ADC, DAC, reference, and signal-conditioning subsystems Architect high-resolution ADC topologies — SAR, delta-sigma, and pipeline — optimizing for linearity, noise floor, and power efficiency Lead design of precision DAC circuits including current-steering, R-2R, and segmented architectures for high-accuracy output generation Drive calibration and trimming strategies for offset, gain, and linearity correction across temperature and supply variation Lead architecture and design reviews, assessing trade-offs across resolution, speed, power, and area Influence converter IP reuse strategies, design flows, and product roadmaps across multiple programs Required Skills and ExperienceMSEE with 10+ years of precision data converter IC design experience, or PhD with 8+ years (BSEE with equivalent depth considered) Proven expertise in ADC architectures: SAR, delta-sigma, or pipeline, with demonstrated silicon results Working experience with DAC architectures: current-steering, R-2R, segmented, or charge-redistribution topologies Deep understanding of precision performance metrics: INL, DNL, SFDR, SNR, ENOB, THD, offset drift, and gain drift Track record of leading converter designs from concept through tape-out, silicon validation, and production release Deep understanding of CMOS process technologies, including device matching, noise mechanisms (thermal, flicker, quantization), and layout-dependent effects Proficiency with Cadence IC design suite: Virtuoso, Spectre/APS, and AMS Designer Excellent presentation, technical writing, and communication skills Preferred QualificationsExperience with digitally-assisted calibration techniques: background calibration, digital error correction, redundancy-based algorithms Familiarity with high-speed converter design techniques including interleaving and time-interleaved ADC architectures Experience with switched-capacitor circuit design and bootstrapped sampling techniques Knowledge of digital interface protocols for data converters (SPI, LVDS, JESD204B/C) Familiarity with oversampling and noise-shaping techniques for precision applications Technical ScopeFull-chip precision converter architecture ownership from specification through silicon bring-up Noise budgeting and signal integrity analysis spanning analog front-end through digital back-end Design-for-manufacturing and yield optimization through Monte Carlo analysis and statistical design centering Reliability assessment including electromigration, hot-carrier injection, and NBTI effects on matching-sensitive structures Collaboration and ImpactPartner with applications, product definition, and systems engineering teams to translate precision measurement requirements into converter specifications Evaluate new process capabilities and identify opportunities for improved matching, lower noise floors, and enhanced converter performance Contribute to organizational knowledge through design reviews, converter IP development, and cross-team technical forums Why Join ADIAt Analog Devices, you will work on meaningful engineering problems with real-world impact alongside world-class engineers.
