DESCRIPTION: At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you’ll join a dedicated team providing world-class scientific expertise and application support to customers. As a Field Applications Scientist – Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), you will serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers using Thermo Fisher Scientific NGS products and workflows. You will provide scientific expertise, application support, and training through a variety of channels, including on-site visits, phone, email, and remote support. You will partner closely with Sales, Field Service, Technical Support, Bioinformatics, and regional/global application teams to provide effective pre-sales and post-sales support, optimize customer workflows, resolve technical issues and customer escalations, and drive successful adoption and utilization of Thermo Fisher Scientific NGS solutions. This role will primarily support Ion Torrent NGS platforms and associated workflows, including key application areas such as Oncology and Reproductive Health (RH). By building trusted technical relationships with customers and providing timely, high-quality application support, you will contribute to customer satisfaction, retention, and the overall success and growth of the business. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: [Pre-Sales Support] Perform product and workflow demonstrations for Thermo Fisher Scientific NGS solutions at customer or company sites. Prepare and deliver technical seminars, workshops, and presentations to a wide range of scientific and customer audiences. Provide technical and application training to Sales Representatives and other commercial colleagues as appropriate. Collaborate with Sales Representatives to develop technical selling strategies and recommend appropriate solutions based on customer applications and workflow requirements. Participate in customer evaluations, field testing, and other pre-sales activities for new NGS products, assays, and applications. Accompany Sales Representatives on customer visits to provide technical and application expertise in response to customer inquiries. Support product evaluations and conditional sales placements through on-site and remote application support. Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific at scientific conferences, trade shows, customer events, and seminars to present NGS products, technologies, workflows, and applications. Identify and communicate business opportunities related to Thermo Fisher Scientific NGS workflows, including instruments, reagents, consumables, software, and services. [Post-Sales Support] Provide on-site and remote application and troubleshooting support for customers using Ion Torrent NGS platforms and associated workflows. Deliver start-up application training following installation, including instrument operation, sample and library preparation, sequencing workflows, software applications, reagents, consumables, and basic data analysis. Support customers across key NGS application areas, particularly Oncology and Reproductive Health (RH). Assist customers in implementing, optimizing, and troubleshooting NGS workflows, including sample preparation, library preparation, sequencing performance, reagents, software, and data analysis. Resolve customer technical issues and complaints in a timely manner and appropriately escalate complex issues when required. Collaborate closely with Field Service Engineers, Technical Support, Bioinformatics, Sales, and regional/global application specialists to investigate and resolve complex instrument, assay, software, and workflow issues. Coordinate cross-functional engagement for significant or urgent customer situations requiring support from multiple customer-facing teams. Plan and deliver customer user meetings, workshops, and seminars to provide updates on NGS instruments, sequencing chemistry, software, assays, and applications. Support customer adoption of new NGS products and workflows through evaluations, demonstrations, training, and post-launch application support. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of customer interactions, technical inquiries, troubleshooting activities, and application support. [Other Roles & Responsibilities] Report field activities, customer issues, technical trends, and business-relevant information regularly to the Manager and Sales partners. Communicate recurring customer issues, emerging application needs, and market trends to appropriate internal stakeholders. Stay current on scientific, technical, and industry trends and innovations in NGS, genomics, Oncology, and Reproductive Health. Collaborate with APAC and global application specialists to share best practices, technical knowledge, and solutions for complex customer issues. Participate in cross-functional and inter-departmental projects as required. Manage expenses, scheduling, customer visits, and support activities effectively. Actively participate in Sales, Service, and FAS team meetings as required. Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned. REQUIREMENTS: [Minimum Qualifications] Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a related life science discipline is strongly preferred. Hands-on experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows. Practical knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA sample preparation, PCR, library preparation, sequencing, and basic NGS data analysis. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify workflow-related issues and provide practical solutions. Strong computer skills and ability to work with scientific software and NGS data analysis tools. Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to deliver technical and scientific content to diverse audiences. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a customer-focused mindset. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional and regional/global teams. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing customer and business needs. Strong oral and written communication skills in both Korean and English. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently within Korea and internationally as required. [Preferred Qualifications] Experience with Ion Torrent NGS platforms, assays, reagents, and software is a strong advantage. Experience in Oncology and/or Reproductive Health NGS applications is preferred. Experience in clinical, diagnostics, and/or regulated market environments is preferred. Previous experience in a customer-facing role, Field Applications Scientist role, Technical Support role, or similar scientific support position is strongly preferred. Experience providing technical training, scientific presentations, product demonstrations, and troubleshooting support to customers is strongly preferred.
