The PositionThe IT Network Engineer is a highly skilled technical specialist responsible for delivering, supporting, and optimizing reliable network solutions across campus environments. In this role, you will leverage your solid understanding of network infrastructure's impact on business operations to make sound technical decisions and drive effective project execution with key operational autonomy. The Opportunity:As a key technical contributor, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, support local business stakeholders, and ensure that network deployments and daily operations align with enterprise architecture guidelines and regulatory standards. Your position will be based in Tucson. Job Responsibilities Scope / (Content Leadership): Acts as a skilled network engineer, configuring, testing, and implementing integrated and resilient campus network solutions (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi). Demonstrates a clear understanding of how network technologies interact to support business demands, taking technical ownership of project deliverables with sound operational judgment. Automates repetitive tasks for efficiency and scalability utilizing tools like Ansible, Terraform, or custom scripts. Accountability / Problem Solving: Utilizes strong troubleshooting skills to resolve complex L2/L3 network incidents and support technical deployments. Stays informed on networking advancements, participating in Proofs of Concept (PoCs) and site refreshes. Contributes to network component standards and provides escalation support for major outages. Stakeholder Management: Communicates technical details and project updates clearly across site teams and non-technical stakeholders. Works directly with local site managers to gather requirements, collaborate with IT partners (such as Enterprise Architects and Solution Owners), and ensure network services meet business needs. Impact / Strategy: Makes technical decisions that support project timelines and site operational goals. Ensures all network deployments comply with Quality/Regulatory standards and adhere to the organization’s Technical Architecture Framework (TAF). Contributes to project planning by accurately estimating task effort, technical dependencies, and implementation risks. Complexity / (Product Size): Delivers successful outcomes across campus network services by collaborating effectively with diverse, virtual, and site-based cross-functional teams. Mentors junior peers through effective collaboration and daily operational support. Business / Technical ability: Applies strong technical principles across core networking domains (Routing, Switching, Wireless, and Firewalls). Demonstrates a solid understanding of local business areas beyond IT infrastructure, recognizing how network availability directly impacts day-to-day site operations. Responsible for reaching and maintaining agreed service level indicators (SLIs), objectives (SLOs), and agreements (SLAs) in compliance with QA requirements. Contributes to the maintenance of live services by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health. Monitors and resolves incidents and problems. Qualifications Education / Experience Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or business field, or equivalent experience. 3-5 years of experience in supporting and deploying complex data networks. Demonstrated experience in taking technical ownership of project deliverables, small-to-medium network tasks, and site-level initiatives. Demonstrated experience contributing to technical design decisions and working within enterprise-level project teams. Proven track record of configuring, deploying, and supporting integrated, reliable infrastructure solutions across the enterprise network space. Experience in estimating task durations, technical dependencies, and timelines to deliver successful network deliverables. Proven ability to build trusted partnerships with local business stakeholders, effectively gathering operational requirements and translating them into reliable network configurations. Technical / Business Skills Solid technical expertise across key network domains (e.g., Routing & Switching, Wireless LAN, Network Management, and Monitoring tools). Practical understanding of business operations beyond IT infrastructure and a clear understanding of how network availability impacts site business processes. Proven experience applying best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service environment utilizing Scrum and Agile methodologies. Ability to work closely with local and virtual teams. Knowledge of packet capture devices for network troubleshooting. Additional Qualifications Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to provide updates, gather requirements, and align operations with expectations.Outstanding problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to translate technical requirements into reliable network solutions. Collaborative mindset with strong peer-mentorship capabilities, with proven ability to support and guide team members across project tasks. High-Pressure Resilience: Calibrated to stay calm, focused, and decisive during major outages or aggressive project deadlines. Commercial Mindset: Demonstrated ability to track BOMs (Bill of Materials), and assist in optimizing operational costs. Experience with scripting & network automation (Ansible, Python, Perl etc.) is a plus. Experience in cloud networking is a plus. Experience with virtualization & containerization is a plus. Working knowledge of security devices such as firewalls, proxies and VPNs, understanding of authentication and data encryption, is a plus. Usage of ServiceNOW for IT service management process is a plus. Special Requirements Flexible working hours. This is an onsite position. Candidates must live locally & be able to commute to campus, to be considered for this position. This is an on-site position Relocation benefits not available for this position. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Arizona is $69,300-$128,700 . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
