Job description

Before the detail, here's the challenge you'd help us solve. We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that. Here’s what this particular role covers. 🛠️ About our Robotaxi Teams The Robotaxi team is building the capabilities that take Wayve's AI Driver from assisted to fully driver-out operation. Remote Assistance sits at the heart of this effort, the real-time bridge between the vehicle's autonomy stack and human operators that lets us safely handle the moments the AI Driver can't resolve alone. This team owns the end-to-end architecture connecting onboard vehicle systems, offboard services, and operator tooling, balancing latency, reliability, and safety at every step. 🧠 Your day-to-day - Own the architecture and technical roadmap for Remote Assistance across onboard integration, offboard services, and operator tooling/HMI - Define and drive the vehicle–operator "contract" - covering data, authority bounds, fallback/MRM behaviour, and failure handling - Lead cross-team execution across autonomy, safety, platform/infra, and product partners, turning architecture into deliverable workstreams - Set system-level quality bars for safety-critical RA operation - latency budgets, reliability targets, monitoring, replay/evidence, and incident learning loops - Act as the technical interface to engineering leadership and safety stakeholders, shaping how Remote Assistance feeds into Wayve's evolving L4 safety case 🧩 What you'll be working on: - The end-to-end Remote Assistance system onboard vehicle integration, offboard services, and the operator-facing HMI, designed to evolve as one connected system - Low-latency telemetry and video streaming between vehicle and operator, with hard constraints on glass-to-glass latency and data freshness - Fallback and minimal risk manoeuvre (MRM) design — the failure-handling logic that keeps operation safe when things don't go to plan - Decomposing a cross-org architecture into concrete workstreams, some delivered directly and others placed on autonomy, safety, infra, and platform teams' roadmaps - Building Remote Assistance's contribution to Wayve's L4 safety case, working closely with the safety organisation 👤 You should apply if: - You have staff-level experience building and owning real-time, safety-critical systems in AV/robotics, teleoperation, aerospace/avionics, industrial control, medical devices, or a comparable domain - You bring a strong product and customer orientation, and can connect technical performance metrics to rider experience and launch readiness - You've led cross-org technical roadmaps and landed work across multiple teams you didn't directly manage through architecture, alignment, and execution - You have deep hands-on expertise in at least one of: low-latency video/telemetry streaming, robotics/AV system integration, control systems, or human-in-the-loop system design - You have strong safety-first engineering instincts, failure-mode thinking, fallback/MRM design, operational constraint enforcement, and evidence-driven decision making - You have direct experience with teleoperation, remote driving, or remote assistance systems, including operator UX and authority boundaries - You're comfortable scaling production systems in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, from prototype through to operational reliability 🌱 Not ticking every box? That's totally okay! If you're passionate about autonomy and keen to learn, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement. More about Wayve: 🚗 Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency. We believe autonomy represents a once in a generation transformation in how people and goods move, comparable to the shift from horses to cars, and from human driven vehicles to intelligent machines. Our ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve's mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere.
