Job description

Logitech is the Sweet Spot for people who want their actions to have a positive global impact while having the flexibility to do it in their own way. The Team and Role: Position at Logitech PWS (Personal Workspace solution) engineering group The Personal Workspace Solution group from Logitech is committed to help people create and communicate their passion and work to the world, anytime anywhere. Putting users front and center, we strive to innovate and elevate their experiences. This is more than computer mice, keyboards, webcams and presentation remotes - it’s about enabling the future beyond today's tools and in a sustainable way. Everything goes through great design and exceptional user experience conveyed in great hardware and elevated by software. Within PWS, the Optical Engineering team is responsible for the definition, design, qualification, and optimization of optical systems for video products. The team works closely with cross-functional engineering teams, external suppliers, design partners, and factories to deliver products with strong performance, quality, manufacturability, and user experience. We are looking for a Lead Optical Engineer to play a key role in the development of new camera-based products. This role will complement existing team capability with deeper strength in camera module integration, optical root cause analysis, supplier design review, IR image quality performance, and validation/test result verification. You will support both new product development and ongoing production, with particular focus on projects involving new camera modules, new sensors, new lenses, external camera modules and lens design partners. The role will cover end to end product development from specification definition to product validation and mass production. Your Contribution:Be Yourself. Be Open. Stay Hungry and Humble. Collaborate. Challenge. Decide and just Do. Share our passion for Equality and the Environment. These are the behaviors and values you’ll need for success at Logitech. In this role you will: Drive Hands-On Optical Simulation & Modeling: Perform in-house optical design, geometric/non-sequential ray tracing, tolerance analysis, and stray light/flare simulations using standard design packages (Zemax, Code V, LightTools, etc.) to evaluate feasibility and validate performance prior to tooling release. Lead Optical Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Apply structured, data-backed troubleshooting methodologies to systematically diagnose and resolve complex optical anomalies—such as relative illumination/shading, Chief Ray Angle (CRA) mismatch, stray light, flare, tilt artifacts, and thermal/assembly degradation—across various sensor architectures (RGB, IR, depth/ToF) and lens configurations. Audit & Verify ODM / Supplier Designs: Serve as the technical authority reviewing external ODM and supplier optical designs, tolerance stack-ups, thermal behavior, validation plans, and reported measurement results to ensure uncompromising quality. Co-Develop Next-Gen Camera Modules: Collaborate closely with specialized camera module and lens design partners to build custom modules from the ground up, ensuring seamless physical, optical, and electrical integration between new image sensors and lens assemblies. Integrate Active Optical & Auto-Focus Systems: Drive the hardware integration of active optical systems, including Voice Coil Motor (VCM) selection, actuator control mechanisms, and the interaction between lens optics and Auto-Focus (AF) search algorithms in collaboration with firmware and ISP engineering teams. Ensure Methodological & Analytical Rigor: Analyze large-scale empirical test datasets from internal labs, cross-site teams, and manufacturing lines. Distinguish true optical behavior from measurement setup artifacts to produce 100% reliable, error-free engineering conclusions. Optimize Production & Test Architecture: Define optical test specifications, acceptance criteria, test charts, and guardbands. Establish robust correlation between engineering validation labs and factory test stations during development and production bring-up. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with mechanical, electrical, firmware, quality, and program management teams to align optical specifications with overall product cost, schedule, and user experience goals. Key Qualifications:For consideration, you must bring the following minimum skills and experiences to our team: Hands-On Simulation Expertise: Advanced proficiency in optical design and simulation tools (Zemax, Code V, LightTools, TracePro, or equivalent) with demonstrated ability to run tolerance, sensitivity, stray light, and thermal simulations independently. Advanced Optical Diagnostic & RCA Skills: Proven track record of conducting rigorous root cause analysis on optical anomalies across diverse sensor types (RGB, IR, depth/ToF) and lens constructions. Third-Party Design Auditing: Strong capability to critically review, challenge, and verify external ODM/supplier optical designs, tolerance budgets, and reported test data. Mechatronic & Active Optical Integration: Solid understanding of active optical systems, including VCM/actuator selection, lens movement mechanics, and Auto-Focus (AF) algorithm interaction. Camera Module Co-Development: Hands-on experience integrating image sensors with optics, including Chief Ray Angle (CRA) matching, spatial layout constraints, and module packaging considerations. Data-Driven Analytical Rigor: Exceptional ability to translate complex, multi-variable optical test data into clear, reliable engineering decisions and actionable recommendations. 3D CAD Proficiency: Working knowledge of 3D modeling software (Creo/ProE, SolidWorks, or equivalent) for optical-mechanical integration reviews. Cross-Functional System View: Strong understanding of how optics interact with mechanical structures, sensor performance, electrical interfaces, and embedded firmware/ISP pipelines. Quality & Engineering Tools: Advanced knowledge of DFMEA, DFMA, PSS, and optical tolerance stack-up analysis. Multitasking & Flexibility: Ability to manage multiple parallel streams, balancing rigorous ODM oversight on one project with deep hands-on co-development on another. Travel: Ability to travel internationally as required. Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in consumer imaging, video collaboration, security cameras, or automotive vision products. Direct experience in NPI builds, factory optical test bring-up, and lab-to-factory correlation studies. Practical experience working within multi-site and cross-regional engineering models. EducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience. #LI-AL2/104 Across Logitech we empower collaboration and foster play.
