Advancing possibilities for a brighter tomorrow Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated Senior Manufacturing Engineer on a permanent basis to join our Cork team . Job Purpose: The Senior Engineer will provide technical leadership for a high-volume value stream operating highly automated production lines, with a strong focus on equipment reliability, process capability, patient safety, product quality, output and cost. This role requires strong technical expertise in automated equipment, mechanical systems and controls. The Senior Engineer will drive robust problem-solving, equipment and process improvements, validation and verification, and sustainable manufacturing performance in a near-continuous production environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide technical leadership for highly automated, high-volume manufacturing equipment, driving performance across safety, quality, service, output and cost. Own the technical health of assigned equipment and processes, developing a deep understanding of equipment interactions, constraints, failure modes and capacity requirements. Apply expertise in automated manufacturing technologies, including mechanical systems, PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, sensors, motion controls, robotics, and automated assembly and test systems. Improve equipment reliability and uptime through preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, structured breakdown analysis, critical-spares planning and obsolescence management. Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of complex equipment and process issues using data, statistical analysis and structured problem-solving methods. Drive measurable improvements in OEE, throughput, cycle time, yield, scrap, downtime and process capability using Value Centred Engineering, Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies. Lead equipment qualification, process validation and verification activities, ensuring equipment and processes remain in a validated and controlled state. Provide technical leadership for equipment modifications, automation upgrades, capacity expansion and new equipment introductions, from requirements and design review through commissioning, qualification and production handover. Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Process Development, Maintenance, EHS and Supply Chain to deliver robust, compliant and maintainable manufacturing solutions. Support the resolution of nonconformances, CAPAs, audit actions and manufacturing risks related to equipment and processes. Lead technical improvement and capital projects that enhance quality, reliability, productivity and cost performance. Partner with equipment suppliers, system integrators and external design resources to ensure solutions meet technical, quality and engineering standards. Evaluate and implement emerging manufacturing and automation technologies that improve capability, reliability and productivity. Ensure equipment and process changes meet applicable quality, machinery safety, CE, EHS, ergonomic and maintainability requirements. Demonstrate a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality and comply with applicable regulations, procedures and training requirements. Education & Experience: Honors Bachelors Degree (Level 8) or higher in engineering or a related STEM discipline. Minimum of 5 years' experience in manufacturing engineering, automation, equipment engineering or a related technical manufacturing environment. Strong technical expertise in automated manufacturing equipment, controls, mechanical systems and equipment reliability. Demonstrated experience solving complex equipment and process problems using structured, data-driven methods. Experience with equipment qualification, process validation and change control within a regulated quality system. Demonstrated ability to independently lead engineering projects and deliver measurable improvements in manufacturing performance. Strong communication, collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business functions. Experience in the medical device or another highly regulated manufacturing industry. Experience supporting high-volume, highly automated manufacturing operations. Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies. Experience delivering capital equipment, automation or manufacturing improvement projects.
