Job Description: Microchip has an opportunity for an Engineer I-Information Systems (Equipment Automation) in the Manufacturing Integration Team at our semiconductor fabrication facilities. The Engineer I will work with automation technologies, AI-assisted tools, and modern development practices. Essential Functions Setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting host communications for semiconductor equipment End to end troubleshooting of semiconductor equipment host communications Independently coordinate and implement robust solutions that go beyond regular equipment resets Utilize AI-assisted development tools and LLM-based code assistants for coding and troubleshooting Develop and maintain Python scripts for equipment monitoring, data collection, and automation Collaborate with network engineers to ensure network best practices are utilized Use company tracking systems to log requests, issues, and projects Work with both a technical and non-technical user community Interact professionally with colleagues, leads, supervisors, managers, internal customers, and other departments Participate in the training and onboarding of new employees Requirements/Qualifications: BS Degree: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent 0-2 years of experience troubleshooting equipment automation issues Comfortable with C, C++, C#, Python, Visual basic Comfortable with both Windows and Linux operating system environments Basic knowledge of communications hardware (RS232 versus Ethernet) Basic SQL query skills Experience using AI-assisted development tools and LLM-based code assistants Understanding of basic AI/ML concepts (supervised learning, classification, regression) Ability to translate archaic text-based communications with little to no documentation Experience with version control systems Self-driven with strong time management and project management skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Flexible and responsive regarding changes to process and work assignments Will be required to be available for after-hours support onsite or remote Preferred Skills Familiarity with frontend semiconductor manufacturing Knowledge of fab equipment communication protocols (SECS/GEM) Experience troubleshooting issues within a corporate network environment Experience working with equipment management, fault detection classification/control and cell controller software solutions Semiconductor experience working with fab equipment Knowledge of SEMI Standards, SECS/GEM standards and VFEI protocols Knowledge of relational databases and their tools (Oracle preferred) Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation Critical Physical Requirements Must be able to work for long periods in a clean room environment wearing full bunny suit attire. Must be able to lift 25 lbs; push 60 lbs, pull approx. 60 lbs; carry 25 lbs; sit 60%; stand 20%; walk 20%; must be able to perform activities that include bending at waist, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, crawling, handling, feeling, hearing, talking, seeing. This is a Safety Sensitive position.
