Director, Global Strategic Sourcing
Phillips Medisize
Job description
Your Job John Zink, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a Director of Strategic Sourcing to convert global supply markets, supplier capability and commercial rigor into a competitive advantage. This leader will build and operate a center-led category-management system across direct materials, fabricated components, engineered systems, lifecycle services, indirect spend and logistics. The role is accountable for translating business strategy, product and project demand, aftermarket priorities and manufacturing needs into an executable multi-year sourcing portfolio. The successful candidate will lead through ten global category managers, reporting through four regional supplier-development resources and focused capability leaders, while preserving clear technical, quality and expenditure decision gates. What You Will Do Develop and execute the multi-year Strategic Sourcing agenda, category portfolio, talent plan and operating cadence in alignment with John Zink growth, cost competitiveness, project execution and aftermarket objectives. Establish clear global commercial ownership across the category portfolio and develop fact-based strategies that connect demand, supply markets, cost drivers, risk and implementation to business priorities. Lead portfolio prioritization across equipment, engineered systems, contract manufacturing, local-content, low-cost-country development, aftermarket/revamps and enterprise categories. Sponsor the highest-value or highest-risk negotiations, make-versus-buy analyses, contract-manufacturing decisions and supplier-relationship interventions. Build a Finance-validated value pipeline that distinguishes realized hard savings, cost avoidance, cash and operational value; ensure implementation and leakage are visible. Ensure sourcing is involved at proposal, design and project gates early enough to influence requirements, total cost, capacity and lead time without compromising Engineering design authority. Establish supplier panels, executive supplier relationship management, category councils and recurring reviews that connect category strategy to product and regional execution. Deploy supplier-development resources under GCM strategies to expand qualified capacity in the Americas, EMEA, India and APAC. Partner with Procurement Operations to translate category decisions into compliant purchase-order execution and with Supplier Quality to enforce qualification, control-plan and release gates. Develop succession, coaching, performance standards and capability-building plans for the Strategic Sourcing team. Decision Rights and Boundaries Approves category strategies, supplier panels and commercial award recommendations within delegated authority; escalates exceptions and commitments outside authority. Owns Strategic Sourcing standards, category-governance design, accountable-owner assignment, portfolio sequencing, talent, and sourcing-process integrity; approves or escalates strategies and commercial recommendations within delegated authority. Engineering owns requirements, design authority, and technical acceptance; Supplier Quality owns supplier/process qualification and quality hold/release. The accountable business or value-stream leader owns make-versus-buy and expenditure approval; Finance validates recognized value. Procurement Operations owns purchase-order execution after an approved handoff. This role may not bypass legal, compliance, customer, technical, quality, or delegation-of-authority gates. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) Experience leading strategic sourcing, category management, procurement or supply-chain in a complex manufacturing, engineer-to-order or project-delivery environment. Experience leading global teams, developing talent, and driving organizational change. Experience building and executing multi-year category strategies across direct materials, fabricated components, engineered packages and/or services. Experience leading negotiations, contracting, total-cost analysis, supplier risk management, and strategic supplier relationships. Experience partnering with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Project Management and/or Supplier Quality in technical and schedule-critical work. Experience with subcontracting or contract manufacturing, including supplier identification, business-case development, qualification coordination and controlled implementation. What Will Put You Ahead Leadership experience in combustion, emissions control, process equipment, oil and gas, refining, chemicals, power, industrial EPC or another safety-critical engineered-products environment. Experience with global supplier development, nearshoring, local programs and total-landed-cost modeling. Experience with demand-driven planning, ERP transformation, spend analytics, e-sourcing, contract lifecycle management and supplier-performance systems.
