Principal Product Manager United States Washington Redmond
Microsoft
Job description
Lead portfolio prioritization and investment planning across product and engineering teams, synthesizing customer and partner needs, business value, strategic alignment, risk, capacity, dependencies, and execution readiness. Own the portfolio intake and evaluation process for new customer, partner, business, engineering, and product-group opportunities. Ensure requests have clear outcomes, evidence, accountable owners, and the artifacts required for effective decisions. Maintain a transparent, ranked book of work that reflects strategic direction and available capacity. Recommend where to accelerate, sequence, reshape, defer, or stop investments as priorities and evidence change. Maintain the integrity of portfolio data by establishing common taxonomy, lifecycle definitions, ranking conventions, documentation standards, and data-quality expectations across planning and engineering systems. Design and operate planning, roadmap, intake, and execution-review rhythms that give teams and leaders a trusted view of outcomes, delivery health, dependencies, risks, metrics, and learnings. Orchestrate dependencies across Marketplace, Commerce, engineering, finance, legal, compliance, marketing, and other product organizations. Establish shared outcomes, clarify ownership and decision paths, and escalate material risks when needed. Ensure portfolio decisions are documented, communicated, and translated into clear ownership and follow-through. Build durable operating standards, onboarding resources, and self-service guidance that allow practices to scale. Use analytics, workflow tools, automation, and AI responsibly to reduce administrative effort, improve decision quality, and increase the timeliness and accessibility of portfolio insights. Create clear, evidence-based portfolio narratives and recommendations for senior and executive audiences, connecting delivery progress and trade-offs to customer, partner, and business outcomes. Help advance AI-native product-development practices through experimentation, shared learning, effective change management, and responsible adoption. Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience. We believe that relevant experience can come from many paths. If this opportunity interests you and you believe you can contribute to the outcomes described, we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every preferred qualification. Passionate about realizing the potential of AI, including hands-on experience driving transformation towards AI-native development models. Experience connecting strategy, roadmap planning, investment decisions, and execution within a complex technology, platform, marketplace, or enterprise-product environment. Experience establishing or improving product operating mechanisms such as portfolio intake, prioritization, roadmap governance, execution reviews, dependency management, or outcome tracking. Ability to synthesize customer, partner, business, financial, technical, capacity, and execution signals into clear recommendations and trade-offs. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence across organizational boundaries, establish shared accountability, and communicate effectively with senior leaders and delivery teams. Experience or demonstrated interest in applying analytics, automation, and AI to improve product-development and decision-making practices responsibly.
