Software Engineer Ii United States Washington Redmond
Microsoft
Job description
Improve application security maturity at scale by designing, implementing, and building security solutions. Building prototypes and proof-of-concept code, working alongside the engineering teams to provide advice on secure design and implementation. Participate in technical discussions and bring new ideas to the table. Learns to use appropriate artificial intelligence (AI) tools and practices across the software development lifecycle (SDLC) in a disciplined manner. With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable. Begins to write and learn to create code that is extensible and maintainable with managerial oversight. Learns about and may begin to apply diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability, and develops an understanding of when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Learning about debugging tools, tests, logs, telemetry, and other methods for proactively flagging issues before they occur. Participates in incident retrospectives as instructed to assist with identifying root causes of problems. Learns to review code and helps to review code of others to ensure it meets team standards. Participates in code review processes for self-development, gathers feedback, and learns about coding standards and the team's features. Learning about and helping to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility. Learns best practices about security and how to establish code invariants to model "security as code." Learns about how to adopt security standards for clear security code review practices for a product that align with design and engineering principles. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and develop a broad understanding of complex distributed systems, cloud services, and identity-based architectures. Experience analyzing technical signals, logs, telemetry, or system behavior to identify anomalies, investigate root causes, and drive data-informed decisions. Curiosity and problem-solving mindset with a passion for understanding how systems can fail, be misused, or behave unexpectedly, and using that knowledge to build scalable engineering solutions.
