Job description of the Role: Develop and improve chemical processes for making existing and new products. Scale up processes from lab level to pilot and full production. Coordinate with teams like production, quality control, safety, and regulatory. Follow standard EHS practices (Environment, health & Safety). Proper understanding of process safety studies e.g., RC, DSC, ARC, ARSST, TSU and powder safety studies. Transfer lab-developed processes to manufacturing plants and help solve any issues. Develop plans for experimentation, DOE studies, negative studies. Draft clear reports, batch records, eLN and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Use and maintain lab equipment like reactors, chillers, and chemical processing equipment. Explore and perform novel chemical reactions, chiral chemistry, multi-step synthesis like halogenation and pressure reactions. Analytical data monitoring for the reaction using tools like NMR, IR, LC-MS, HPLC, GC, and GC-MS, PSD, XRD etc. Identify and study impurities- purification, crystallization, and distillation methods. Understand and control key process parameters to ensure consistent quality. Solving production issues and improving efficiency at different FMC global & domestic sites. Onsite support at sites for troubleshooting production issues and ensuring consistency. Selected person may have to work QC or other roles based on the organization requirement. Qualification: Essential: Master’s degree in organic chemistry from reputed college. Desirable: PhD. In Organic Chemistry Experience: More than 5 years of experience in process development/ improvement, R&D and chemical manufacturing. Skill Set: Strong knowledge of organic synthesis and chemical engineering principles. Experience in scale-up and pilot plant operations is preferred. Knowledge of structural elucidation and interpretation by using analytical techniques such as NMR, IR, LC-MS, HPLC, GC and GC-MS, UV Visible spectrophotometer, KF titrator, conductivity meter. Knowledge about TLC, Rota vapor, EYELA small-scale synthesizer, EYELA small scale pressure reactor, automated lab reactors of 1L to 20L with different agitators, SPDU, WFE, Huber thermostats, Julabo chilling systems. Good documentation and report-writing skills. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Multistep organic synthesis and custom Synthesis of molecules from gram to kilogram scale. [Chlorination, Bromination and Pressure reaction] Synthetic route optimization/process stabilization, validation, and determination of critical process parameters. Identification of impurities, their characterization and crystallization techniques. Capable of technology transfer related to process from R&D to plant level and trouble shooting. Agriculture / Specialty fine chemical / Pharma experience strongly preferred. FMC is an equal opportunity employer.
