Job Description Summary We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist – Mass Spectrometry to join our Analytical Characterization team. In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert for mass spectrometry-based characterization of biopharmaceuticals, applying cutting-edge LC-MS technologies to support biosimilar development. You will lead analytical investigations, provide scientific guidance across multidisciplinary project teams, and contribute to the characterization of drug substance and drug product throughout development. Your expertise will be instrumental in assessing product quality, comparability, and biosimilarity, as well as supporting regulatory submissions and interactions with health authorities. Your Key Responsibilities: Your responsibilities include, but not limited to: Serve as the mass spectrometry subject matter expert within development projects, providing scientific leadership and strategic input across all development phases. Design, develop, optimize, and execute advanced LC-MS-based methods, including peptide mapping, intact and subunit analysis, native MS, and etc. to characterize complex therapeutic modalities such as monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), fusion proteins, and emerging biologics. Interpret and critically evaluate complex analytical datasets, ensuring data quality, scientific rigor, and compliance with regulatory expectations. Document and communicate results through scientific reports, study summaries, technical assessments, and presentations. Support and drive the implementation of lab automation (e.g. sample preparation workflows), collaborating with internal stakeholders and technology partners to improve analytical throughput, robustness, and data quality. Serve as responsible person for assigned lab instruments, overseeing instrument qualification, maintenance, calibration, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management to ensure reliable operation, regulatory compliance, and sustained analytical excellence. Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing emerging mass spectrometry technologies, workflows, and computational tools. Develop and apply advanced data analysis, visualization, and automation solutions using programming and statistical tools (e.g. Python or R). Mentor junior scientists, foster scientific excellence within the team, and contribute to internal and external scientific publications and presentations. Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards, data integrity principles, and Sandoz DQP requirements. What you’ll bring to the role:Essential Requirements:PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with ≥2 years of relevant industry experience; or MSc with ≥6 years; or BSc with ≥12 years of relevant experience in mass spectrometry. Strong expertise in LC-MS-based characterization of biopharmaceuticals (e.g., proteins, peptides). Proficiency with MS data analysis software (e.g., PEAKS, Refiner MS) and general data processing tools. Excellent scientific communication and ability to work in cross-functional, international teams. Fluent in English. Compensation Structure & Criteria: Sandoz compensation is determined by job level, qualifications, niche skills, experience, and location within company salary ranges. Fully proficient and highly effective employees can expect a starting salary around market median, with those new to the level or with less functional depth at the lower end of the range and those with sustained superior or niche skills towards the higher end of the range. Internal equity and external market data inform our range placement. Annual salary reviews consider performance outcomes, market alignment, and business needs.
