Job description

The primary responsibility of this position will be to test fiber optic products per established work instructions to evaluate product performance and collect data that provides evidence of conformance to product requirements. This includes, but is not limited to the following: Project Conduct optical, mechanical, and environmental tests of fiber optic products to assess compliance to product requirements. Collect, record, analyze and report test data. Follow testing schedule and provide status in the lab request system. Utilize Microsoft Excel and Word to analyze and report data. Assist in performing failure analysis. Utilize custom computer software used with test equipment to acquire data. Review and approval of test plans and reports if required. Utilize test request system to update test status. Communicate issues in a timely manner to the test engineer. Department Competency/experience with corporate, business unit and lab quality management system documentation. Competency/experience with relevant industry standards for fiber optic products Competency/experience with the range of lab test equipment. Competency/experience with fiber optic products and technical principals. Competency/experience with internal and external customer expectations. Follow department safety and efficiency programs. Participate in test equipment maintenance and validations if required. Complete training on lab processes, procedures and test methods as required. Position has growth potential with four additional technician titles each with increasing responsibilities. Collaboration with current lab staff which includes other test engineers and technicians in team oriented environment. Familiarity with a range of fiber optic products or equivalent. This position must be responsible of understanding and following EH&S (Environment, Health and Safety) administration system policies, procedures, and applicable standards.
