Job Summary: The Red Hat Community Linux Engineering team is looking for an Intern with knowledge of programming and interest in the Open Source community to join us in Brno. In this role, you will contribute to Open Source infrastructure development. You’ll join the Projects and Initiatives team to work on Forgejo, Discourse, and other popular pieces of Open Source infrastructure. As an Intern, you’ll work side by side with an experienced and supportive team, develop new features, debug issues, and join the Fedora Linux community.. This long-term internship will give you the opportunity to gain experience in Open Source development, establish or grow your presence in the Open Source world, and make connections that can serve a long and fruitful career in the ecosystem. This is a paid, part-time internship based in the Brno office, with flexible working hours. The expected start date is February 2027. What you will do: Explore Open Source: Get hands-on exposure to open-source projects, Linux environments (such as Fedora and CentOS), and learn how community-driven tools solve various challenges. Collaborate Using Industry Tools: Practice daily software development using professional collaboration tools including Git, issue trackers, email, and community chat channels. Engage with the Community: Participate in open-source discussions and learn how to document your work. Learn and Contribute to both Team and Community: Assist team members in building, testing, and deploying services used across our ecosystem. What you will bring: You must be enrolled in an accredited university program in the Czech Republic during the full duration of the internship and must be able to join us part-time from February 2027 till January 2028 Working knowledge of written and spoken English Academic Foundation: Currently enrolled in a 3rd-level undergraduate or equivalent degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field. Core Programming Skills: Coursework or project experience in Python & Go (preferred), or other high-level languages like Java, C++, or JavaScript. Version Control Basics: Basic familiarity with Git (eg; cloning, branching, committing, and opening Pull/Merge Requests). Linux & Automation Interest: Basic understanding of Linux operating systems and a curiosity about automation concepts and continuous delivery. Testing Concepts: Basic knowledge of software testing, debugging, and troubleshooting techniques learned through academic assignments or personal projects. Adaptability & Drive to Learn: Eagerness to learn new tools, switch between tasks, and ask questions when stuck. Bonus Points: Coursework, personal projects or exposure to containers (eg; Docker/Podman), basic cloud computing, or open-source software contributions.
