The role independently leads high-priority, cross-functional initiatives, translates enterprise priorities into practical plans, and delivers measurable outcomes through influence rather than formal authority. For Launch Excellence, the role rigorously assesses launch readiness, identifies risks and opportunities, and mobilizes cross-functional stakeholders to resolve issues and strengthen execution. For Marketing Excellence, the role evaluates organizational and individual capability needs and designs or delivers targeted solutions that strengthen marketers' strategic and executional capabilities. The role also contributes Japan perspectives to Asia Pacific Launch and Marketing Excellence forums, leverages regional resources and best practices, and helps translate relevant regional priorities into local impact. About the Job The role has two core areas of responsibility: Launch Excellence and Marketing Excellence. Across both areas, the Senior Manager is expected to independently lead complex initiatives, influence senior stakeholders, and deliver measurable business and organizational outcomes. A. Launch Excellence 1. Drive launch readiness for prioritized brands Facilitate cross-functional discussions and collaboration throughout launch preparation. Assess launch status using agreed dashboards, milestones, and KPIs, ensuring that risks, gaps, and decisions are clearly surfaced. Partner with cross-functional teams to define solutions, clarify ownership, and drive timely resolution of emerging issues. Provide independent, strategic recommendations to brand and business leaders to strengthen launch readiness and execution. 2. Advance launch learning and best-practice sharing Capture and synthesize lessons from launches and priority initiatives. Translate insights into practical frameworks, tools, and recommendations that can be applied across brands and business units. Create forums and mechanisms that enable consistent sharing and adoption of relevant launch best practices. B. Marketing Excellence 3. Strengthen organizational and individual marketing capabilities Independently lead enterprise priorities that strengthen organizational and individual marketing capabilities. Diagnose capability gaps using stakeholder input, business needs, and available data, then design fit-for-purpose interventions. Manage complex workstreams end to end, including strategy, stakeholder alignment, planning, execution, measurement, and continuous improvement. Partner with business-unit leaders, Marketing Directors, cross-functional partners, and regional colleagues to ensure relevance, adoption, and measurable impact. C. Responsibilities Across Both Areas 4. Shape strategy and deliver results through influence Proactively identify unmet needs, emerging risks, and opportunities across Launch Excellence and Marketing Excellence. Develop clear recommendations, challenge assumptions constructively, and convert ambiguity into structured action plans. Make sound decisions within the scope of responsibility, escalate appropriately, and maintain momentum with limited supervision. Demonstrate ownership for outcomes, not only activities, and communicate progress, trade-offs, and impact clearly to senior stakeholders. Requirements Preferred Experience The following experience is preferred. Candidates will be considered based on the overall relevance and strength of their experience. Five years or more of pharmaceutical business experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company, or relevant pharmaceutical launch consulting experience. Successful track record in marketing and the launch of new products. Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives without direct reporting authority. Experience developing strategic recommendations and translating them into practical execution plans and results. Experience working with senior stakeholders in Japan; regional or global collaboration experience is preferred. Skills and Capabilities Highly strategic, with the ability to connect enterprise priorities, customer and business needs, and execution. Strong ownership and self-direction; able to define the path forward, act proactively, and deliver results with limited supervision. Ability to influence, align, and mobilize stakeholders across multiple functions and organizational levels in Japan and the region. Structured and organized, with strong program and project management discipline. Ability to solve difficult and ambiguous problems using critical thinking, data, and sound judgment. Strong facilitation, communication, and business storytelling skills. Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
