Summary: Provide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) support to the EHS Team, Operations, maintenance and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS). Essential Functions: Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards. Lead the creation, development and integration of EHS programs – safety examples: lockout tagout, machine guarding, process safety; environmental examples: NPRI, NSNR; Industrial hygiene examples: respiratory protection, noise, and air sampling. Develops audit protocols, audit programs, procedures, and practices for the current EHS Programs. Collaborate with internal partners and site leadership as required to gain support and ensure compliance. Provide Health and Safety support in the following areas: o Incident investigations o JHSC audit finding closures o Risk assessments o Develop and conduct EHS training: orientation, monthly safety talk and department training o Coordinate internal and external EHS department specific training o Manage Learning Management System (LMS) for EHS training o Manage electronic document management system for EHS procedures and instructions o Safety Data Sheet Management o Conduct equipment reviews o Support EHS KPI tracking o Manage EHS related supplies · Provide Environmental support: o Ship dangerous goods following the regulations and provide guidance to employees. o Manage hazardous waste management program o Manage wastewater discharge program ensuring compliance with Sewer Use By-Law Provide Industrial Hygiene Support: o Assist with IH assessments on existing products and evaluate technologies to improve containment o Make recommendations for improving containment, engineering controls etc., where necessary o Participate in work-teams to evaluate containment of existing processes and implement containment plans · Support Respiratory Protection Program and Fit Testing o Implement Positive Air Pressure Respirator (PAPR) maintenance and testing programs, as necessary o Conduct respirator fit testing for employees and clients o Assist in selection and use of respiratory protection, protective clothing, hearing protection and safety glasses · Provide back-up and support to other EHS team members and Health Centre. · Lead or participate in EHS audits and/or investigations with regulatory bodies, Clients and Corporate representatives. · Implement Global EHS Standards and complete regulatory and/or corporate reporting as the need arises. Perform alternating or rotating shift work occasionally as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: BSc in Occupational Health and Safety or in a related field EHS Certificate Program completion Experience: Minimum 2 years of EHS experience in Chemical, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical industry Minimum 1 year of Industrial Hygiene training/experience Previous experience conducting presentations/training for various levels within an organization and client or project management experience Equivalency: Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with the English Language. Perform all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality systems Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Effectively engage in and adhere to departmental systems to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Always be client and patient conscious. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Model positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines in an initiative-taking manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field Physical Requirements: Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits, or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment. Lifts light items for limited duration. Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odours, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator occasionally. Compensation The estimated annualized pay range for this position in Ontario is $23.98–$35.96.
