Job description

At Jabil (NYSE: JBL), we are proud to be a trusted partner for the world's top brands, offering comprehensive engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing solutions. With 60 years of experience across industries and a vast network of over 100 sites worldwide, Jabil combines global reach with local expertise to deliver both scalable and customized solutions. Our commitment extends beyond business success as we strive to build sustainable processes that minimize environmental impact and foster vibrant and diverse communities around the globe. Mikros Technologies, a Jabil company, is seeking a System Design Engineer to lead the mechanical development and integration of advanced liquid cooling solutions for AI, hyperscale, and high-performance computing applications. This role owns the surrounding system, including liquid cooling loops, manifolds, coolant distribution assemblies, drawer integration, top-level assembly management, packaging, and mechanical interfaces to cold plates, while partnering with Thermal Engineering on detailed cold plate design and thermal-interface requirements. This role can sit in Austin TX, Boston MA, or Claremont NH. Work life balance with our 9/80 schedule and every other Friday off! Competitive salary and benefits including annual bonus opportunities. How will you make an impact? The ideal candidate has experience developing complex products, the ability to lead projects in a highly cross-functional environment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and engineering teams across multiple global regions. The engineer will own system development activities from early concept and mechanical architecture through detailed design, multiple prototype and design validation phases, design release, production readiness, and mass production, balancing technical performance, manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability throughout the product lifecycle. What will you do? Own the mechanical design and integration of the surrounding system, including liquid cooling loops, drawer integration, manifolds, coolant distribution assemblies, fluid routing, and mechanical interfaces to the cold plates. Collaborate with the Thermal Engineer responsible for detailed cold plate design. Define and influence early mechanical architecture in collaboration with thermal system architects and cross-functional engineering teams. Own top-level assembly management, including loop layout, packaging strategy, integration architecture, component interface definition, top-level assembly CAD, including 2D and 3D models, final assembly drawings, engineering documentation, and release packages for system-level components and assemblies. Define system-level cold plate envelope and interface requirements, review cold plate module drawings against system requirements, and perform fit-up, compatibility, and interference checks across the integrated assembly. Own system-level mounting screw selection, hose and tube routing, barb strategy, manifold integration, and associated mechanical interface definition. Support global and domestic builds, both onsite and remote, in prototype, mini-build, SOP, and main build cycles through POC, P1, P2, EVT, DVT, and mass production to drive rapid issue resolution and product readiness. Identify, assess, track, and drive closure of system-level technical risks. Create system and assembly drawings with inspection criteria, GD&T specifications, and manufacturing acceptance standards such as FAI and SPC callouts. Manage system component and assembly releases throughout the product lifecycle, including engineering change implementation and release coordination. Contribute system-design input to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews led by operations and manufacturing partners. Perform system-level tolerance stack-up and variation studies covering assembly fit, component interfaces, packaging, and integration requirements, while collaborating with Thermal Engineering on TIM-gap and thermal-interface tolerance requirements. Review system and assembly-level FAI, SPC, metrology, process capability, Cp/Cpk, and production data to support system design decisions, while coordinating with Thermal Engineering on data specific to individual cold plates. Develop the initial assembly and disassembly strategy, system assembly documentation, and loop-level SOP content, then coordinate transfer and continued ownership with Process and Manufacturing Engineering. Own and maintain the system-level bill of materials and coordinate interfaces with individual cold plate bills of materials. Develop build strategies that support successful transition from prototype through high-volume production. Support integration activities and manufacturing implementation at customer and contract manufacturing sites. Work directly with customers to define system requirements, review concepts, communicate system-level technical trade-offs, and support deployment activities. Conduct system-level failure analysis and root cause investigations and implement corrective actions across design, supplier, and manufacturing functions. Collaborate closely with Thermal Architecture and Engineering, Manufacturing and Process Engineering, Quality, Reliability, Test Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain and Sourcing, Program Management, Business Unit leadership, customer engineering teams, suppliers, and domestic and international manufacturing partners to deliver production-ready liquid cooling solutions at scale. How will you get here? Education Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline Experience 5+ years of mechanical product design experience involving complex engineered systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to effectively communicate technical information across multidisciplinary and international teams to drive decision making Demonstrated ability to support products through rapid development cycles from early concept development phases, through multiple prototyping, verification, and validation stages, leading into manufacturing ramp activities Experience using manufacturing and quality data to support engineering decision making Experience creating engineering drawings utilizing GD&T, functional dimensioning, inspection criteria, and tolerance analysis methodologies Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and statistical tolerance analysis techniques Experience presenting technical concepts, test results, design reviews, and engineering recommendations directly to key stakeholders or customers Strong proficiency with CAD and PLM systems including parts, assemblies, drawings, and release workflows. Creo and SolidWorks experience preferred A working understanding of engineering fundamentals including mechanics of materials, tolerance analysis, thermodynamics, and DFMx Preferred Qualifications Experience in a high volume contract manufacturing environment highly desired Experience developing liquid cooling products for hyperscale data centers, AI infrastructure, HPC platforms, semiconductor equipment, electronics, or advanced thermal management applications Experience with manifold development, coolant distribution systems, fluid routing, rack-level integration, direct-to-chip liquid cooling architectures, and mechanical integration with cold plates Experience assessing FAI data, metrology results, process capability metrics (Cp/Cpk), and manufacturing data to drive design improvements Experience designing components for CNC machining, brazed assemblies, metal stamping, castings, extrusions, net-shape manufacturing processes, injection molding, and complex assembly Experience supporting international builds Experience working directly with global suppliers, overseas manufacturing partners, and contract manufacturers Familiarity
