Your Job As an Automation Machine Design Engineer within the Global Operation Capability team, you will provide hands-on engineering support for business-critical automation initiatives across Molex sites worldwide. You will translate manual manufacturing processes into practical equipment, fixture, and automation solutions, working directly on designs when needed and partnering with suppliers to deliver effective systems. Our Team The GOC Automation Task Force is based in Japan and operates as a specialized team aligned with Global Operations. The team supports urgent, high-impact automation projects around the world and leverages Japan’s ecosystem of equipment and component manufacturers, together with Molex Japan’s strengths in precision machining and high-speed assembly. What You Will Do Provide practical, hands-on automation engineering and design support to Molex sites across multiple countries. Design manufacturing processes and mechanisms for assembly, fabrication, and inspection applications. Design fixtures and compact machines, including tabletop units, while supporting process sequencing and layout development. Develop automation concepts and detailed equipment designs, or lead external suppliers in machine development. Accelerate automation through the effective use of commercially available technologies such as robotics. Apply sensors, controls, robotics, and other mechatronics technologies to drive process improvements. Explore and recommend new automation approaches, including the appropriate use of AI-enabled technologies. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) Experience developing practical automation concepts for existing manual manufacturing processes. Experience designing or drafting automation equipment using 3D CAD, particularly assembly or inspection equipment for small products and components. At least 5 years of direct experience in automation or machine design and 10 years of overall relevant engineering experience. Native-level or upper business-level Japanese language proficiency. Business-level English language proficiency. Ability to support global Molex manufacturing sites from a Japan-based position. What Will Put You Ahead Experience improving manual processes through changes to methods, layouts, tooling, or fixtures. Experience supporting overseas facilities, including equipment launch, operator training, engineer development, or project leadership. Experience applying robotics, advanced mechatronics, sensor technologies, controls, or AI technologies in manufacturing automation. Upper business-level English proficiency. Business-level proficiency in Chinese, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, or other relevant languages. At Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs.
