Job description

Amazon is looking for a talented and self-motivated Construction Environmental Program Manager to join our EMEA Environmental team. As Amazon continues to expand its physical presence across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, we are committed to conducting our construction activities in the most environmentally responsible way possible — meeting or exceeding local environmental regulations at every stage. This role is central to how AWS delivers on that commitment during the construction phase of our data centers. You will own the Environmental Construction Program for the EMEA region — developing strategy, building scalable processes, and driving operational excellence across a rapidly growing portfolio of projects. While the primary focus is programmatic — designing frameworks, setting standards, and driving adoption at scale — the role also involves periodic visits to construction sites to observe program implementation first-hand and validate that standards are being applied effectively on the ground. You will partner with construction teams, contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders to embed environmental best practices at every stage of the construction lifecycle. Key job responsibilities Program Development & Implementation - Define and implement the EMEA Construction Environmental Program, including standards, workflows, service-level agreements (SLAs), and operational excellence mechanisms - Develop and maintain the Construction Environmental Risk assessment framework for the region, ensuring high-risk aspects are identified early in the project lifecycle (pre-design through Facilities Handover) - Create and own the regional environmental inspection and audit protocols, ensuring consistent execution across all EMEA markets - Establish program requirements for Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) and oversee their quality across the portfolio Compliance & Stakeholder Management - Partner with Construction Managers, General Contractors, and Regional Environmental Engineers to ensure environmental compliance across all phases of construction projects - Serve as the EMEA point of contact for construction environmental matters, providing guidance and technical support to project teams - Coordinate with environmental consultants, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders (AWS Environmental Legal, Infrastructure Operations, Design Engineering) - Review design changes for environmental compliance implications and advise project teams accordingly Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement - Define and track environmental compliance metrics for the EMEA construction portfolio — build dashboards and reporting mechanisms for leadership visibility - Lead environmental incident investigations and oversee the implementation of corrective actions, including Root Cause Analyses and Corrections of Errors - Proactively identify systemic issues and drive improvements across the region through data analysis, trend identification, and best-practice sharing - Prepare regulatory reports and maintain documentation in line with program standards Training & Capability Building - Develop and deliver environmental training and awareness programs for construction teams and contractors across EMEA - Share best practices and lessons learned across projects to raise the environmental performance bar - Build and maintain program documentation (playbooks, templates, guidance materials) to enable scalable execution About the team Diverse Experiences Amazon values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying. - Bachelor's degree in science or equivalent - Experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations in accordance with applicable laws - Experience in environmental compliance and permitting, waste management, contractual, regulatory, and liability assessments, environmental permit evaluations and applications, EIAs and water discharge requirements - Applied knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and standards related to areas such as air quality, water quality, waste management, and hazardous materials - Master's degree or equivalent - Experience in construction management or construction program management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants - Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects - Experience using data and metrics to back up assumptions and implement effective solutions - Experience in construction Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
