With 70 economists and analysts and 200 economics and government reporters worldwide, Bloomberg has an outstanding capacity to explain where the world is economically and politically, where it might be heading, and the ways in which geopolitical and economic forces interact. Bloomberg Economics offers a comprehensive macroeconomic research service for Terminal subscribers. That includes detailed forecasts, supported by thorough and thematic research. The economists also produce previews of major data releases and economic events as well as analysis of the numbers as they break. The goal is to offer Bloomberg clients a deeper insight into the themes that drive policy, financial markets and capital flows. We are seeking an economist specializing in the Canadian economy to join our research team. We’ll trust you to: Produce economic research and analysis of the Canadian economy including key data releases and Bank of Canada meetings. Lead on the forecasting the Canadian economy including short-term indicators as well as producing medium and long-term projections for the economy. Present the team’s views at conferences, on television and radio, in print media as well as meeting with clients. Collaborate on projects with the broader Bloomberg Economics group – contributing quotes to news stories and from time to time working on joint projects with economics reporters. You’ll need to have: A graduate degree in economics. A PhD would be a plus. 7+ years of experience in economic analysis. A proven expertise in analyzing Canadian economic data. A deep knowledge of trade, monetary and fiscal policies including long-term challenges. Excellent communications skills in English. Strong writing, research and teamworking skills. The energy and the initiative to provide a consistent flow of original, high-quality analysis and to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. We’d love to see: Experience producing research across a variety of formats, ranging from rapid responses to economic events to longer-term collaborative research into major global economic trends. Experience working in economic policy or financial markets. Experience of applying quantitative methods to answer questions relevant to investors.
