Georgia-Pacific has an exciting opportunity for a talented Finishing Manufacturing Engineer at our Palatka, Florida facility. Located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, the Palatka mill employs approximately 975 people and operates four retail paper machines which produce consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels, as well as two Kraft paper machines. The Finishing Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for providing leadership, technical support, and operational ownership for the finishing operations on the Kraft Paper Machines, including the #1 Rewinder, #2 Rewinder, and Kraft Roll Wrapper . This position will work in the Kraft Paper Machines Department and works closely with operations, maintenance, reliability, quality, shipping, and planning to prioritize work, eliminate losses, develop employee capability, and drive sustainable performance improvements throughout the finishing area. This position will report directly to the Kraft Department Production Manager. Our Team The Palatka mill and its products are a critical part of GP’s Consumer Products portfolio, including high-profile Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Brawny®, and Sparkle® brands. GP has invested heavily in Palatka in recent years to deliver competitive tissue and towel products including a new towel paper machine. The mill also features two Kraft paper machines and recent investments in a state-of-the-art Daily Operations Center (DOC) - a singular control hub for our asset monitoring. With approximately 975 team members, the mill is highly strategic operation for GP and a foundational part of the local community and economy. Located 45 minutes west of the beautiful beaches of St. Augustine, the mill is nestled in outskirts of the growing city of Palatka. Jacksonville, Daytona Beach and Gainesville are approximately one hour away, and Orlando is only two hours! What You Will Do Provide day-to-day technical and operational ownership of the #1 Rewinder, #2 Rewinder, and Kraft Roll Wrapper. Driving a safety-focused culture, regularly engaging-in and encouraging safety participation throughout the Kraft Department. Build capabilities of operators through the application of the PBM business philosophy; through the development of training materials, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, qualification standards, and hands-on coaching. Work closely with the #1KPM and #2KPM manufacturing engineers to prioritize work, troubleshoot issues, and safely maximize the throughput of first-quality tons from each paper machine. Work closely with the Kraft Shipping team to improve and maintain the reliability of the Kraft Roll Wrapper, minimizing impacts to the paper machines. Collaborating with operations, quality, maintenance, process control, and reliability to improve and sustain the KPIs of the Kraft Department. Perform data analysis to effectively identify and close gaps. Support maintenance outages on both paper machines and the roll wrapper; including overseeing work and assisting in shutdown/startup of the assets. Own the prioritization of maintenance and improvement work for the finishing area, partnering with Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability to develop work scopes, establish priorities, and ensure work orders are prepared for effective execution Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience working in a team environment and leveraging the skills of the entire team. What Will Put You Ahead 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience working on and around paper machines and rewinders. Experience working on and around roll wrappers or similar converting equipment. Experience with SAP or similar CMMS systems.
