Job description

Introduction of the job As an Electrical Engineering Researcher, you will specify, design, develop, realize, integrate, and test modules and tools in a multi-disciplined team, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners and suppliers. You will deliver within system specifications, cost targets, and project schedules, ensuring timely realization of solutions that contribute to competitive, achievable, and serviceable products. The Electrical Engineering researcher requires a broad skillset with an aptitude to learn as needed. This role will include interpretation of requirements to define electrical system architecture, schematic design, board layout, embedded software, board integration and test. The position requires highly motivated, extremely organized, and self-driven individuals. You will take the lead in developing complex parts of modules and deliver technically complex solutions with full ownership, considering industrialization and cross-team impacts. Collaborate across multiple teams, lead interfaces with suppliers and other disciplines in less defined environments and guide a small group of peers through technical execution. Design: Analog and Digital Circuit Design Printed Circuit Board Design AC and DC Power Distribution Design Interlock & Safety Circuit Design and Programable Logic Controller (PLC) Interconnect Cables and Harness Design Electronic Racks, Cabinets, Boxes and Control Console Design Perform Root Cause Analysis: Troubleshooting from System to Component Level Schematic Capture: Functional Overviews, Cable Overviews, and Detail Wiring Diagrams Technical Writing: Define and Document Specifications and Design Decisions Test & Integration: Develop and Implement the Product Validation and Verification (V&V) Strategy Design, Develop and Build Product Specific Test ToolingIncludes: Simulation, Emulation, and Hardware Test Tools. Test Validation and Verification (V&V) of Product RequirementsPlan and Execute Component Level Testing & Sub-module Integration Plan and Execute Module Level and System Level Integration Bridge the gap between Electrical Systems and System Software Technical Writing: Define and Document Test Procedures, and Test Reports Role and Responsibilities In this role, you will contribute to engineering deliverables that scale with job grade, from executing defined tasks and supporting senior engineers to owning complex technical scope, coordinating cross-functional work, and leading program-level outcomes. Test Bench Ownership Define and maintain test bench interface requirements and system architecture. Take end-to-end ownership of test bench functionality, performance, reliability, and maintainability. Drive test bench development from concept through deployment and operational support. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure alignment between test bench capabilities and project requirements. Electrical Design & Integration Design electrical test bench hardware, schematics, and system layouts. Create and maintain electrical and cabinet designs using EPLAN and Powerpoint. Design and integrate instrumentation, safety systems, power distribution, and control hardware. Support commissioning, integration, debugging, and validation activities. Documentation & Knowledge Management Create comprehensive user manuals, operating procedures, and maintenance documentation. Publish and maintain technical documentation within Teamcenter (TC). Ensure all designs and documentation comply with organizational standards and engineering best practices. Test Support & Troubleshooting Diagnose and resolve electrical, PCB, wiring, and system integration issues. Support laboratory activities, prototype builds, and engineering investigations. Identify and implement improvements to enhance test bench reliability and usability. Identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements with traceability, and coordinate verification criteria to confirm deliverables meet intent. Conduct research and feasibility studies, document findings, and translate results into recommendations, tradeoffs, and decision inputs. Develop engineering concepts and solutions, make technical choices, and resolve issues to meet functionality, performance, cost, and compliance needs. Define and communicate specifications and high-level designs, align interfaces, and support reviews and approvals to enable quality execution. Support system or product integration by coordinating dependencies, applying configuration management, and enabling smooth project execution. Define and execute validation and test approaches, improve methods and procedures, and ensure qualification evidence supports release readiness. Estimate effort, plan and track work, manage risks and dependencies, and deliver assigned work packages or projects to agreed quality and timelines. Maintain accurate technical documentation, share knowledge through coaching and mentoring as applicable, and follow EHS policies while identifying and mitigating safety risks. Education & experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required. MS or PhD preferred. Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience required. Skills Technical Skills Proficiency in LabVIEW and MATLAB for test automation, data acquisition, and instrumentation control. Proficiency in KiCAD for schematic capture and PCB design. Python, C-Code, or similar embedded software. Experience designing and troubleshooting PCB assemblies, including breakout boards and test adapters. Strong electrical troubleshooting and debugging skills. Experience with cable design, harness creation, connector selection, and cable assembly. Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQ cards, and DMM’s. Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Well-documented, reliable, and maintainable test benches that support engineering development activities. Efficient and safe test bench operation with minimal downtime. High-quality technical documentation available within Teamcenter. Rapid diagnosis and resolution of electrical and integration issues. Strong partnership with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Engineering Competencies Strong system-level thinking and ownership mindset. Ability to independently drive complex technical tasks to completion. Excellent problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills. Strong communication and documentation abilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience with industrial control systems, PLC’s, or motion control systems. Experience with electrical cabinet design and system integration. Familiarity with safety standards and risk assessment for test equipment (namely interlocked enclosures). Experience supporting research, prototype, or high-tech development environments. Knowledge of version control, configuration management, and engineering release processes. Requirements, Interfaces & Technical Specification Management: Ability to identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements with traceability, translate them into clear specifications, and align interfaces so engineering deliverables meet intent and enable reliable downstream design, integration, and verification Engineering Solution Development (Electrical): Ability to develop engineering concepts and solutions, make sound technical tradeoffs, resolve issues, and realize designs that meet functionality, performance, cost, compliance, and schedule constraints within system/module specifications.
