Norcross Field Engineering, Infrastructure Low VoltageCabling SME GA 30092
Computacenter · Field Engineering, Infrastructure Low Voltage/Cabling SME
Job description
About the role We are seeking a Field Engineering Subject Matter Expert focused on Low Voltage and Infrastructure Cabling to help define how complex physical infrastructure work is scoped, delivered, tested, and accepted across our North America Field Engineering organization. This is a senior technical individual contributor role for someone who combines deep hands on field experience with the ability to turn that experience into standards, technical work packages, methods, training, and scalable delivery capability. You will work across the full opportunity and delivery lifecycle. That includes supporting Sales and Solutions on complex opportunities, validating field feasibility, improving estimating assumptions, establishing technical standards and required artifacts, supporting high risk projects and escalations, developing employees and partners, and helping ensure consistent quality at scale. A key part of the role is closing the loop between what we sell, what the field actually encounters, and how we improve the next delivery model and estimate. What you'll be doing Serve as the practice level technical authority for Low Voltage / Infrastructure Cabling delivery across Field Engineering. Actively support complex customer pursuits and the sales motion by reviewing scope, field conditions, technical assumptions, acceptance requirements, labor drivers, comparable field experience, and delivery risk. Partner with Sales, Solutions, and Costing / Estimating to determine whether proposed work is technically feasible, properly scoped, supportable, and grounded in current field experience before customer commitments are made. Develop and maintain repeatable technical standards, work package requirements, methods, readiness criteria, quality checklists, testing requirements, documentation standards, and acceptance evidence. Define site survey and buildability requirements for pathways, telecom rooms, racks and cabinets, termination capacity, conduit fill, access, grounding and bonding interfaces, testing, and acceptance. Support Project Engineers and delivery teams during complex deployments, escalations, quality issues, root cause analysis, and customer recovery situations. Define technical skills, training, assessment, and qualification expectations for Field Engineering employees and delivery partners. Assess partner technical capability and readiness for defined work types while partner sourcing and commercial ownership remain with the appropriate teams. Analyze recurring defects, delivery results, and material planned versus actual execution gaps and convert lessons learned into stronger standards, artifacts, training, Costing / Estimating guidance, and preventive actions. Review what the work actually required in the field and use that evidence to improve future labor assumptions, productivity inputs, technical role mix, tooling, testing, partner requirements, assumptions, exclusions, and delivery methods. Help develop and launch new services through controlled pilots, technical readiness reviews, and repeatable delivery methods. Structured copper and fiber cabling, backbone and horizontal infrastructure, patching systems, and related physical layer services. Pathways and spaces, racks and cabinets, cable management systems, telecom rooms, sleeves, penetrations, access, grounding and bonding interfaces, and installation hardware. Fiber installation, splicing, connectorization, cleaning and inspection, polarity, optical loss testing, OTDR use cases, remediation, and certification. Copper installation, termination, permanent link or channel testing, certification, troubleshooting, and remediation. Site surveys, constructability, pathway capacity, termination capacity, material and tooling requirements, and design to delivery handoff. Applicable TIA, BICSI, NEC/NFPA, manufacturer, customer, permitting, firestopping, grounding and bonding, and safety requirements as they affect field delivery. What you have Ten or more years of progressive experience in low voltage, structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, fiber optics, or related professional services delivery, including substantial experience leading complex or large scale field deployments. Demonstrated field delivery depth across copper and fiber infrastructure, pathways and spaces, termination, splicing, testing, labeling, documentation, and technical acceptance. Experience conducting or reviewing site surveys and determining whether proposed infrastructure is buildable with available pathways, spaces, termination capacity, access, and other physical constraints. Experience interpreting construction drawings, specifications, cable schedules, floor plans, pathway plans, rack elevations, bills of material, and customer installation standards. Strong understanding of fiber and copper test methods, test equipment configuration, result interpretation, certification, evidence, and failure analysis. Experience building technical standards, methods of procedure, work packages, installation guides, quality checklists, training, or other repeatable delivery artifacts. Experience supporting customer facing technical discussions, sales pursuits, solution development, estimating or costing, and statements of work. Experience leading technical escalations, root cause analysis, corrective action, and quality recovery. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence across functions without relying on direct authority. Willingness to travel based on customer and business requirements and to support nonstandard work windows when required. BICSI RCDD, RTPM, Technician or Installer credentials, FOA credentials, or relevant manufacturer copper and fiber certifications. Experience with Fluke, EXFO, VIAVI, or comparable copper and fiber certification and troubleshooting platforms. Experience with large multi site, national, campus, data center, or construction integrated programs. Experience supporting union or project labor agreement environments. Experience in a partner led or subcontracted delivery model. Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline, trade background, or equivalent practical experience. Complex opportunities are technically sound and major field delivery risks are identified early in the sales motion. Priority services have clear, adopted technical standards, required artifacts, and repeatable delivery methods. Project Engineers and delivery teams receive expert support without losing project ownership. Recurring quality defects, rework, scope gaps, and material gaps between planned and actual execution decrease over time. Field lessons are reflected in updated delivery standards, SOW inputs, labor and productivity assumptions, and Costing / Estimating guidance for future opportunities. Sales, Solutions, and Costing / Estimating receive credible field insight early enough to improve the next opportunity before it becomes a delivery problem. Employees and delivery partners become more capable and consistent. Field Engineering can scale the practice without relying on the SME to personally participate in every project. This role combines remote work with regular travel to customer and project sites. Work may take place in offices, campuses, warehouses, data centers, construction integrated environments, or other customer facilities depending on the practice. Customer access, safety, credential, and work schedule requirements apply. Human Resources should append the company approved compensation range, benefits, equal employment opportunity language, accommodation language, employment eligibility language, physical requirements, and state or local disclosures before publication.
