Job description

Medical & Translational Science [Søborg] Your impact begins here As Medical Project Director, you will help shape our cardiovascular therapy area strategy and provide medical and scientific input to business development opportunities. You will combine detailed assessment of individual assets with a portfolio perspective on what we need to develop over the next five and ten years. Working with colleagues across the value chain, you will identify opportunities, assess risks and uncertainties, and turn scientific and strategic insights into clear recommendations for leadership and portfolio decisions. What you’ll bring You bring strong medical and scientific expertise and sound strategic judgement. You can zoom in to understand the details and uncertainties in a dataset and zoom out to assess what they mean for an opportunity and the wider portfolio. You distinguish what the evidence supports from what remains uncertain, challenge assumptions constructively and make balanced recommendations when information is incomplete. A Medical Doctor degree and strong research experience at PhD level or equivalent are mandatory. A minimum of five years of clinical development experience is expected, together with the ability to critically assess preclinical and clinical evidence. Experience with cardiovascular disease is an advantage. A strong understanding of the pharmaceutical value chain, including how research, clinical development, regulatory requirements, CMC and commercial considerations influence development and portfolio decisions. Experience in business development or therapy area strategy is preferred. Hands-on business development experience assessing individual assets, for example through screening or due diligence, is particularly valuable. Experience guiding work across functions, engaging senior leaders and building agreement around priorities without relying on formal authority. Strong communication, presentation and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific issues clearly in written and spoken English to colleagues with different professional backgrounds. Experience engaging external medical and scientific experts to inform development strategies and interpretation of evidence would be useful. What you’ll do Help shape cardiovascular therapy area strategy and portfolio priorities over the next five and ten years, identifying gaps and opportunities for internal development and external innovation. Provide medical and scientific input to screening and due diligence of potential business development opportunities, assessing biological rationale, evidence for clinical benefit, potential differentiation, and key risks and uncertainties. Identify and prioritise opportunities for additional indications, considering scientific evidence, unmet medical need, the competitive landscape and the feasibility of development. Integrate input from colleagues across the value chain into recommendations that reflect clinical and regulatory pathways, development timelines, manufacturing considerations and commercial potential. Prepare clear assessments and recommendations for senior leadership and governance discussions, explaining assumptions, trade-offs and the evidence needed to resolve uncertainties and support decisions. Reassess portfolio priorities as new data and external developments emerge, and coordinate with colleagues to turn strategic recommendations into agreed actions and plans. Who you’ll work with You will join Medical & Science, Cardiovascular & Liver Disease within Medical & Translational Science and report directly to the Senior Director. This is a specialist role without line management responsibility, with leadership exercised through expertise and collaboration. You will work closely with cardiovascular leadership, Global Project Teams and colleagues in Research, Clinical Development, Business Development, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs and CMC. You may also engage external medical experts and research partners to inform scientific assessments. Across these relationships, you will listen openly, bring different perspectives together and build the agreement needed to move strategies and plans forward. What you can expect here You can expect a high degree of independence, complex scientific and strategic questions, and the opportunity to influence decisions with substantial portfolio and business impact. You will take initiative, follow through on agreed actions and contribute to a collaborative environment where colleagues share knowledge and challenge each other constructively. We will provide relevant training, onboarding and support to help you grow into the role and further develop your skills in therapy area strategy and business development. You will build on your medical and scientific experience while learning from colleagues across the value chain. Priorities may change as new evidence emerges, and you will help the team adapt its recommendations and plans.
