Executive Summary Role: DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) Platform: IBM DB2 (Mainframe OS and/or distributed) Focus Areas: Database Administration, Performance Tuning, Backup & Recovery, Security, Replication, Capacity Planning, and Production Support This role requires a strong DB2 DBA who can manage the complete database lifecycle, ensure database performance and availability, support application teams, and provide operational stability for mission-critical environments. Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities 1. Database Administration Create, modify, and maintain DB2 databases and schemas. Support application teams with database design and structural changes. Manage database objects including tables, indexes, views, and tablespaces. Ensure database standards and best practices are followed. 2. Storage & Capacity Management Manage database storage allocation and utilization. Monitor space usage and growth trends. Perform capacity planning and forecasting. Optimize tablespaces, indexes, and storage resources. 3. Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery Configure and manage backup and recovery processes. Execute database restore and recovery activities. Maintain archive and retention processes. Support disaster recovery planning and testing. Ensure business continuity and data protection requirements are met. 4. Performance Monitoring & Tuning Monitor database health, availability, and performance. Perform SQL tuning and query optimization. Analyze resource consumption and system utilization. Identify and resolve database bottlenecks. Improve application database performance. 5. Security & Compliance Manage user access and database permissions. Implement database security controls. Support compliance and audit requirements. Ensure adherence to licensing and governance policies. 6. Replication & Environment Refresh Support data replication technologies and processes. Monitor replication health and data consistency. Perform database refreshes across Development, Test, UAT, and Production environments. Ensure synchronization and integrity of replicated databases. 7. Incident & Problem Management Troubleshoot database-related incidents. Support production outages and critical issues. Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Work with IBM/vendor support teams for complex problems. Implement preventive measures to reduce recurring issues. 8. Reporting & Data Analysis Generate operational and management reports. Support business teams with data extraction requests. Develop SQL queries for reporting and analysis. Provide database insights for operational decision-making.
