Job description
EU Operations Sustainability drives the decarbonization of Amazon's operational footprint across Europe, focusing on reducing environmental impact from transportation, buildings, and energy consumption. The team develops and executes strategies spanning First Mile, Middle Mile, and Last Mile logistics — including energy efficiency, renewable energy, building material decarbonization and climate resiliency and adaptation, at fulfillment centers, sort centres and delivery stations. Working cross-functionally with EU Operations, WW Sustainability, engineering and procurement, the EU Ops Sustainability team translates Amazon's Climate Pledge commitments into actionable programs with measurable targets. The team navigates also the evolving European regulatory landscape to ensure compliance while identifying opportunities to accelerate decarbonization ahead of mandated timelines. EU Ops Sustainability is looking for an analytical, detail-oriented, and self-directed Senior Process Improvement Specialist to own all planning and reporting activities that track carbon, energy, and beyond-carbon plans on behalf of the entire EU Ops Sustainability organization. This is the single-threaded planning and reporting owner for the EU Ops Sustainability team: you will build and run the mechanisms that turn complex sustainability data across First Mile, Middle Mile, and Last Mile into a reliable, auditable single source of truth that leaders use to make decisions. This role supports our Climate Pledge goal of net zero carbon by 2040 by establishing rigorous, repeatable planning cycles and reporting mechanisms across carbon abatement, carbon intensity, energy, and beyond-carbon programs (e.g., waste, water, and circularity). To be successful, you need a passion for sustainability and data, the ability to process large and imperfect datasets to drive business decisions, and the judgment to know which numbers matter. The successful candidate must have strong analytical skills, familiarity with ETL and SQL, and the ability to apply systems thinking to complex, fast-moving problems. You must be comfortable working independently in an ambiguous, high-pressure environment, identifying sources of uncertainty, and finding data to fill the gaps where needed. You are not only able to develop and drive high-level planning strategy, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in, and get the job done—consolidating inputs from stakeholders across business units, resolving data-quality issues, and communicating results clearly to all levels of leadership. Key job responsibilities This role is inherently cross-functional - responsibilities include (but are not limited to): • Own the EU Ops Sustainability planning calendar end to end—coordinate and deliver the annual and multi-year planning cycles (OP1/3YF, OP2, and Glidepath) for carbon, energy, and beyond-carbon plans, gathering and reconciling inputs from stakeholders across all business units. • Build, maintain, and continuously improve the carbon, energy, and beyond-carbon reporting suite— co-developing reports, dashboards, and metrics that distill complex data into actionable insights and inform strategy across First Mile, Middle Mile, and Last Mile, working with the Sustainability Data and Analytics team within EU Ops Sustainability. • Serve as the single source of truth for EU Ops Sustainability planning and actuals, owning the data structures, definitions, and methodology that underpin regional reporting. • Run the sustainability month-end close for the region—ensuring data quality, timely resolution of data issues, and alignment of carbon abatement and carbon intensity reporting on a monthly basis. • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) for the portfolio of sustainability programs, providing visibility into milestones and performance across projects. • Establish the operating rhythm—lead programmatic reviews (MBR/QBR) and prepare variance commentary and metrics for leadership reporting, communicating status, risks, and course-correction strategies to senior leadership. About the team EU Ops Sustainability’s vision is to accelerate decarbonization across First Mile, Middle Mile, and Last Mile to ensure we achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2040. To drive this change, we integrate sustainability into decision-making for Amazon’s operations and supply chain. The EU strategy is aligned with the guidance provided by the WW Operations Sustainability team, and this role is central to making that strategy measurable and accountable. We value work-life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why flexible work hours and arrangements are part of our culture. - Bachelor's degree in econometrics, statistics, industrial engineering, operations research, optimization, data mining, analytics, or equivalent quantitative field - Experience in program or project management - Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements - Experience owning program strategy, end-to-end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership - Knowledge of Excel at an intermediate level (e.g., pivot tables & charts, multiple criteria lookups, nested logical/IF formulas, data cleansing, array formulas, etc.) - Experience working with data analytics and using these metrics to identify problems, or experience in an operational role - Experience managing multiple competing priorities simultaneously and driving goals to completion - Bachelor's degree, or Master's degree in supply chain, business, engineering, finance or related technical or quantitative field - Experience developing and implementing of standards, policies and programs or equivalent - Knowledge of at least one data-focused technology tool, such as Python, SQL, Alteryx, Amazon QuickSight, or similar - Experience in analysing data and creating reports for leadership - Experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, import/export operations, or data entry/data administration - Great attention to detail, strong financial acumen, and excellent written and verbal communication.
